Charger, or anyone else with any info, I have a HP Envy m6 laptop and suddenly I've had problems with Thermal Shutdown. It's been sitting on my desk, so no fan blockage or anything.
Think it's going to die? Just got it last year.
A couple of possible causes--fan is not working, CPU throttling is not working, CPU came loose from the heatsink. Is the fan still running? If you look in task manager are there tasks that are burning constant CPU? If it's been less than a year its probably warranted. If longer, it's probably not a very expensive fix... take it to a local computer shop... look at reviews on Yelp first to make sure you get a place that can actually fix it.
Finally got around to fixing the stupid thing. Thanks for the advice! Apparently, a little thermal grease or something like that fixed it up. I put a program called CPUID HW Monitor on my computer for easy access to the temp etc and you wouldn't believe the heat this thing took. The guy that fixed it said he's surprised it didn't fail in some way. ( or catch on fire) ;D
I know these AMD computers are probably a thing of the past but this is the best, most stable computer I've had, equal to my mac even. I love it. Just wish the screen was better. but, this is my work computer, so it will do.
