The Watering Hole

Ok, after years of using WinXP, I recently upgraded to Win7 32bit SP1 (no need to go for the 64Bit with my old AMD X2 4200+ CPU and 2gigs of RAM - or do I?).

Anyway, after having all the updates up and installed everything's running fine and smooth - and fast!
The prob is IE9:

It's the weirdest thing - I constantly have to hit the "refresh" button when I'm surfing around.
Example: I go into this forum here. I writes my review of the Kemper. I hit post and nothing.
I cannot see it. All I see is the last post before the one I wrote.
Then I hit refresh and my post appears.
It works like that for many sites - but strangely not with all sites. Some appear to work.

The same with the Gear Page site. For example, I check in to see the actual topics before going to sleep.
Next morning I go to the site - and what I get are the same topics from the night before. I have to hit refresh to get the actual topics.
What the heck is that?
It's like I get a cached view of every other site permanently.

I tried resetting IE9 (Internet Options -> Advanced -> Reset) a couple of times now but it still gets this strange behavior.

How can I get rid of this?

Should I try a different browser (and which one would you recommend?)?
Could the prob be my use of multiple AntiVirus programs (Avast and AntiVir, as well as Malwarebytes Antimalware and the Windows defender)? Dunno - maybe that creates some sort of conflict...

Any ideas? I'm getting tired of constantly having to hit refresh!
And again it happened.
I wrote the topic and post above.
I hit "post" (got the usual "allow" or "deny" access message from this page) and I could see the post (Yay!).
But once I clicked on "Computers & Technology" to see the topics - MY topic was not there.
Only after hitting refresh it appeared.

Any ideas?
Although I expect some here to simply tell you to use a different browser, I've heard that quite a few people are having issues with the latest versions of both IE and Firefox.  Apparently, they use protocols that are not widely used in forums yet so that might be the real issue here.  I'm still using IE8 on XP (which can't use IE9).
IE9 is kind of a mess... the plethora of bugs directly related to it is long and varied.  I can't tell you more precisely the issue because I won't install it--I can't use it at my work because we can't support it yet, and I have no need for it at home with Firefox and Chrome...
Cool. Thanks guys.
Ok - I'm going to switch. I never really thought about using a different browser - you know, if it works why change it.
But since it's bugging the hell out of me with the refresh I'll have to get rid of it.

Ok so it's either Chrome or Firefox as the best alternatives?
Chrome is faster (not ridiculously anymore, Firefox has done some catching up).  Chrome supports JavaScript but not Java, so some sites (not many) don't work with it.

EDIT: I guess I  haven't been paying attention.  Chrome supports Java now and has for a while... Chrome, for me, for the win.

Here's a breakdown of browser features and how they are supported...

Awesome!
