Interesting read.

Anyone who uses one will tell you there's really no great alternative. There are lots that do one or two things better, like better e-readers, better cameras, better video players. But there's nothing that blows the iPad out of the water or can even really replace it.
I agree. However, I'm pro-apple.
If you have a laptop though, I don't really see the need for spending the extra money on the apple if your tight on funds. I really don't see the need for one at all, to be honest. If you have a smart phone and a laptop, why have a ipad type device on top of that?
while I tend to agree with Charger, I also am hooked in the google world with all kinds of their programs and can see some things I'd rather have an android tablet for. It's all good though.
I use google for tons of stuff too. The iPad has nice google integration though... I still think the iPad has no equal. The problem all the others are always going to suffer from is lack of standardization. You can't make purpose-built hardware for other tablets the way you can for the iPad... like this, which I am still eyeing... http://www.akaipro.com/synthstation49
And if you build software for an Android tablet, you don't know that it will run on other Android tablets, what the resolution will be, etc. The lack of standardization that is such a wonderful boon in the PC world, kind of sucks in the mobile device world.
There's no substitution for apple products in todays world. That may change later, but apple is the stuff to have. Phones, ipads, and computers. The mp3 players are the only downside to apple's lineup. Really audio in general is an afterthought for apple. This could all be fixed easily with better chips but I don't see them caring enough to fix the problem. And it's really not a problem with the majority of people anyway.
I've had my eye on the flyer for Amy. Two birds one stone... A gift for her and an android tablet I can use any time. :
Got the Kindle Fire for my wife and gave it to her today, early Christmas present. She loves it so far. If I can get it out of her hands in the next few days I'll post my thoughts on it. ;D Looks like the screen is pretty nice!
Let us know. Amy's sister got one and loves it, so she's interested.
I still want to see a $299 flyer though...
P.s.... Someone has already cracked the Fire and is running Ice Cream Sandwich on it ;)
