Lets just have a thread abouts apps and use.

First question, what do you use and handle PDF files? What about creating pdf's?

I read the reviews and they seem to say there are better things than Adobe acrobat reader.
Hi DTR,
for PDF reading I use iBook. It's the default reader on iPad.
I think it's good enough for reading PDF documents..better than many of the apps on the appStore.

You can also create PDF files using Pages (the "quasi Word" document editor). Once you create your document, you can send it via e-mail as PDF.
Another good app I've found is "Mental Note". This app allow you to organize your notes with tags. Each note can be stored using the keyboard, hand writing, pictures, audio (you can record an audio clip and include it) and then send the entire note as PDF file (via e-mail or via iTunes).

The iPad is a really really nice "toy" !! The more I use it the more I like it !

Ciao!
Marco

P.S. Try GarageBand and Amplitube Fender too !! They won't produce any PDF but are two little gems for sure !! ;)

I got Garage Band this weekend.   :)
There are some other cool ones though.  Amplitube, etc.  Any of you guys using any of the other ones?  If so, what do you use to connect?  iRig?
Purchased amplitube Fender edition + 8 track recorder (in app purcase). To plug in my guitar to the iPad I use the AmpKit interface ( from Peavey )
Line6 announced  a new iPad interface + virtual Pod and the demo on the L6 site are not bad  at all!

yeah, I saw the POD.  One guy complained that all the guitar programs require different dongles.
honestly, I probably just use safari or youtube 98% of the time.

I read a couple books on it, but prefer paper.

checked out the satellite views of my neighborhood... once.

I screw around with garage band now and then but mainly that's to waste some time, so it's rare.

I don't use it for "content creation" at all... it's totally awesome for web access anywhere in the house (comfortable chair, garage, outside on the porch, treadmill, etc) - worth the price just for that.

there's tons of stuff that I could do with it, I just don't get around to it... or find it necessary given other options.
Watch out for the new one from Sonoma Wire Works, Guitar Jack. My incredible engineer buddy Joe designed it, and it specs better than anything else out there, sounds better, and has more flexible I/O.  Not released yet but I've played with it and it's legit. Amps in the GuitarTone app sound pretty awesome, too, and were modeled from Paul Allen's collection.
I really enjoy the different ways I can get information with the iPad. For example, the Pulse news reader offers a really compelling view into whatever RSS feeds you want to view, and the NPR app is well designed. iBooks is my current choice for PDF reading... seems to work pretty well.
Charger, where when and how much?  Bert Cave discount?  LOL
I'm gonna try to get one free from him ;)  I think it's gonna retail around $149.

Check out Circuit Sidekick... handy resistor values, LED resistor calculators, Ohm's law, converters, capacitors and resistors in series and parallel...
I will definitely be snagging that app soon.

When you said before that movies ended up being 400-500 mb, how were you converting DVDs for the iPad?
Pretty much anything you use as a converter that has an iPad setting... I use Freemake video converter.  I haven't been ripping DVDs much, but I buy movies once in a while.  I think people use combinations of stuff if they need to break encryption and encode.  Remember though the iPad screen is 1024x768... I see people ripping movies to higher resolutions than that, for their iPad and iPhone, not necessary...
so I still need to break encryption if I want to drop a movie or two on it..  :-(
Just discovered Flipboard. Highly recommended!!!
I played through the new guitar jack the other night at my jam. All night, through the fx loop on a peavey amp and through the front end of my sovtek. Very impressive, a couple of seriously fat amps in it. Latency was tolerable but not great. And cabs are not defeatable in this version of amptone, which would be a nice to have for live playing. The most impressive part though I just being able to show up somewhere with an iPhone and being able to play.  Sick.
ok, another "how too" question.  I am so used to doing ANYTHING I want in Windows with Windows Explorer (creating files and storing things wherever I want or need them.  Drag and dropping them from one file or drive to another, etc).  I want to put my sheet music PDFs on the iPad.  A) how do I get them there (from a folder on my laptop) and B) how do I get them in a place where I can find them and open them when I play tonight?

Second question: I installed a program a few days ago.  I was arranging icons, and the icon for the program just disappeared.  I was dragging it to a "group" icon.  It never got there and is nowhere else.  I can search for the program and open it, but there is no icon on any of the screens to open it.  How can I restore the icon?  I did a quick search and found no answer yet.  If I find before someone answers, I'll edit the post.
1) drag them onto "books" in iTunes -> read with iBooks. should work for any PDF.

2) dunno, try a real restart of the iPad (hold the power button in long enough to get it to ask you if you want to power down... do so, then turn back on) or maybe just reinstall it... or delete/reinstall.
If you can get to the app from Search, then the icon is on your iPad. You just dropped it somewhere where you aren't finding it.

In iTunes, apps that you can add documents to are listed at the bottom of the apps screen.
...or buy "splashtop" to use your win pc/mac on the iPad via WI-FI ! It works great ;)
There are a couple of iPad RDP clients I've seen. LogMeIn seems to be one of the better apps I've seen...

Ok, ready for a good laugh at my expense?  I had 4 "pages" of program icons.  After reading this I dug in....  and noticed an extra "dot" at the bottom when i got to my (former) last page of app icons... I swipped left... and there was a 5th page, with only the missing program icon. I somehow swiped it to a new page, and my 4th page not being full of icons I didn't notice that I had created a new one.  All is well.  LOL
