I have a macbook pro. I have a 160g ipod classic. I use lossless(sp)? to encode my music because the ipod sucks sound wise.
I'm using itunes of course and the music is starting to fill up my computer hard drive. I was wondering if I could put itunes on a separate hard drive so all my music would be off my computer. This sync shit with apple is the only thing I dislike about apple stuff. This may be a very stupid question, but I thought I'd ask.
Thanks, Roy
You can turn the sync shit off (I had to because I have 350 gig of music and my largest iPod is 160 gig). :)
Yes, you can put your music anywhere... just make sure to tell itunes where you put it. There's a setting in iTunes to set your music folder...
Perfect!! Thanks Charger!!!!
Charger, lost.
Do I put the actual itunes app on the external and by doing so the music will go? Or, what?????
;D
I am at a loss!!
There are a bunch of ways to do this, and Apple being Apple, they want to make it "easy" which means if you know anything about computers it's more confusing.
A couple of iTunes settings... one is the iTunes media folder, one is the "keep iTunes folder organized" setting, and the last is the "copy files to the iTunes media library" setting. These three settings work together and if set wrong will do things like copy all your audio files to a directory, etc.
I tell iTunes not to manage my music folder or copy files, stick all my music in its own folder on its own drive, and then when I buy or add something to the library I just drag the folder into iTunes to add it to the library.
Yeah, what he said. If you have music in more than one directory, having iTunes manage things for you will definitely cause you lots of headaches AND duplicate files (although stored in new directories with completely different file names).
I thought I had it. >:(
Apparently, when I put my music on the external hard drive, I did it to quickly. Once I got it on there, I deleted all my itunes library so it would only be on the hard drive. Problem is, it put each song from each cd separated. Now I have to click on each song to listen to it. No continuous play, no shuffle, no nothing. Fuck. I've apparently attempted to make something easy and free up my macs hard drive and made a damn mess.
Anyway to fix this??
