Been thinking about getting one of these. Any suggestions or comments before I get it?

Thanks

Buy it used... my studio buddy just got a one revision old Macbook pro for a grand.

Then, prepared to be annoyed by all the weird Mac OS stuff for a while, until you figure it out.
Just got a Mackbook Pro. Seems just a tad slower than my PC. Actually real easy to use and figure out so far. I got the standard issue, 160 HD, 2.2 processor. The screen is much better than my PC but that's not a plus for Apple, it's just a better screen.

One thing I found weird is....and this is kinda on a different subject....the sound is damn good and has a fully adjustable 7 band EQ. I've had the Ipod and it sounded like shit. This computer is pretty damn good in the sound dept.

I got the 13,3 inch screen because I travel alot and wanted small and easy to take places.

I'm not impressed with the speed, but the rest of the computer is really neat and simple, for lack of better word.

And the mouse pad, fucking great. Probably the best thing about the computer.
I guess no one care much about an apple computer, but since I'm drinking a beer I'll just give it another good shout. ;D

I did some clean up stuff to it the other day after reading about them a while. Fast as lightening. Freakin damn easy to use. Great sound card, excellent screen.

Start up and shut down quick as hell.

So far, I can't find anything to dislike about it. I was so use to cleaning and working on the PC, with defrag and anti virus stuff....shit, nothing to do to this thing yet.

No more PC's for me.
I dig mine big tyne, don't even miss virus scans at all even if I still do 'em fer other people(pc users).

Lets hope the script kiddies don't take up the cause.
We're currently building some Macs... now that Mac uses Intel, you can build one with off-the-shelf components... we're building Power Macs that cost about 1/4 the "official" price.  Of course you can't "build" a mac laptop from components... but I wouldn't be surprised if you can install the OS on a much cheaper laptop...
Cool.

Let me know when you have a finished product. I may give one a try. :)
Hey Binge....just hit my first wall. How do I unzip a file?

Werx fer me too.  What ver of osx are you running?   The built in Archive Utility should deal wif it.
Version 10.5.7.

I'm trying to do a firmware update on my Mp3 player and the update is in a zip file. I'm not sure, but I think it's extracting or whatever but I can get the damn thing to go through to my player. Weird.
If you right click the zip what does it show in the "open with" tab?

When it unzips a .zip file it should make a folder with the same name in the same directory as the .zip
O.K. I'll try to explain what's happening the best I can.

I downloaded the zip file. Under the downloads folder at the bottom of the mac...the dock...I click on the download and it opens up. It has 3 bin, folders, I guess you call them. Now what? Is this unzipped already? And why is it in 3 separate folders, or whatever?

If I right click on one bin file, open with...it says  archive utility...or other.

If I use the utility, it opens another file or folder and adds cpgz to the end of the name of the file.

I hope this helps. It is sure weird!  ;D
You can see the downloads folder by clicking on the top "more in finder" icon at the top of the downloads stack in the dock.  You can get to it through the places section on the left of finder windows as well.

If you have double clicked your .zip file a few times it will make a new identical folder each time.  It adds a number to the end of each  ie   Folder     Folder 1    Folder 2

You may have a bunch of dupes, each should contain the same stuff.    Open one and see if there is something fun inside.
Inside is the 3 bin files I mentioned. Double clicking them adds another. >:( Can't find a fix on the net either. I have seen some of the same problem. This file may have problems. I'll go to the apple store next week and ask them. Thanks though!
.bin?

did you download the windows version of the updater? (just askin... ;))
Didn't give me options Sheep.

But I did figure it out, finally. It was so easy and simple. I was trying to make it difficult, I guess.

All I had to do was this, in case any of you have a problem.

When I got the 3 .bin files or folderrs, I just dragged them into the root folder of the mp3 player. Then...THEN....double click the .bin folders and they work perfectly. Disconnected the mp3 player and turned it own and the firmware update is complete.

The step I was messing up on was the double click on the files after they were in the root folder of the mp3 player. I might have been able to do that before dragging them to the root folder of the mp3 player, but it worked my way anyway. ;D

ah cool, glad it worked out.

I've been a mac user since '86... hope you enjoy your stay. :)
