I might be up and running in a week or three with a new DAW. I bought a new laptop the other day and I am going to start using my Dell desktop as a DAW. I am still all set up in my shed for DAW work, all I need to do is configure Windows 10 for DAW work. I want to keep it off of the internet, so I can shut off Windows Defender, and keep Windows from downloading updates. I have to figure a way to do that. I also want to get rid of Cortana and Windows Edge somehow. Once I am off of the web with that computer I can disable those two. (Google is my friend) I read of a way to do that, so once I have the laptop up and running, I can delete most of the stuff off of the desktop, and have at it. The desktop is an Intel I-5 with plenty of RAM with a solid state hard drive and I have a few external drives one of which is also Solid State. So it should work well.
Does anyone know of a way to force delete windows folders like Cortana and Edge? I have read of ways to disable them by changing the folder addresses, but bagging them up and trashing them would be even better.
I don't know if you can delete them. They can be disabled in the settings. I've been running Windows 10 for quite a while and I disabled that crap right away. It's a lengthy process, but periodically I'll go through the settings menu and shut off everything that is not essential. Microsoft was force changing that stuff on updates for a while but they've got better about it. I still manual check occasionally.
Good Luck isolating the system from the web. I suppose it's possible. I don't do enough recording to care much. I have fairly good success running an old version of SONAR before they went tits up. It functions well without any updates and such. I have a simple USB Focusrite Soundcard and it does an adequate job. It has some fair mic pre's. Lots of options out there these days. I look occasionally, but haven't seen anything I have to have. Yet! :D
Good Luck!
Thanks for the reply amigo. Once I keep it off of the net they can't update it I hope. I have a PreSonus Studio 68 USB interface, https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Studio68C--presonus-studio-68c-usb-c-audio-interface as well as a Behringer U-Phoria UMC204HD USB Audio Interface https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UMC204HD--behringer-u-phoria-umc204hd-usb-audio-interface which is already hooked up to my old XP Laptop for doing MIDI creations with the composition programs I have but will not run on modern Windows OS systems. That way I can create MIDI backing tracks for the drums, strings, pianos, bass, and strings etc, and import the MIDI's ibnto my DAW for rendering to audio with synths and samples. I will run all of my old Sonar Producer stuff on it until 8.5.3 which is the last one I have bought. I wish I could hook up my old Layla 24/96 but I would need an external USB to the PCI card external little unit. But I can't find one of those anywhere.
I am never going to regret going to a Mac...
My DAW configuration is: plug in the interface.
