I bought a 650G removable hard drive and I put ALL my music, Sonar recordings, pics, files, EVERYTHING on it. When I first installed it, it read as an E: Drive. Now, when it opens, it goes to G: Drive and my Sonar stuff doesn't work!! ARRRGGHH!!!  >:( >:( >:(

Well, the kids have iPods and cameras and other stuff they plug in and out on the computer and I think those took the E: and F: Drive spots now. Is that possible? Cuz the error that I get from Sonar says the VSTs are on E: Drive I hope I didn't lose my Sonar stuff cuz we have been working on it for a while and I'll be PISSED! Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

HEEELLLLPPP!!!

I'll give you some help for the next time.

Put your apps and plugins on your C: drive.  All your apps should go on a fixed drive that never moves.
Removable drives are just for data--moving stuff around.  Your songs should go on there.

In the near term, it's going to be tough to get the drive to mount as a specific drive letter.  Best thing to do is remove whatever is E and anything above that now... the removable will usually take the next available drive letter.
Can you rename whatever is E or F to new drive names?  You should be able to do that.  You should also be able to name your external as drive "M" (for example) and have it stay that way (at least per the Cakewalk forums).
I'll try it when I get home, thanks guys I really appreciate it! Do you think my studio files will be ok?  :-[ :'( How do I "remove" the E: drive and others. Do you mean physically removing the iPod, camera card, etc??? Or deleting the aforementioned drives themselves?

I wouldn't remove them unless you really have to.  Just change the drive letter to something else for now.  (Note that this is not that same as renaming the drive.)

You may have to search help to find out how, I can't think of it off the top of my head and have to run now.  If I do remember I'll repost how.

WHEW!!! Thanks guys, you saved a HUGE amount of work we did for the last few months! I did what charger said first, I moved the VST folder back to the C: drive and then used Craigs link to rename it. Everything is zen now. I really appreciate it fellas.... :) :) :)
