I just updated my iphone's software and what do I get? Some kind of funky half assed windows looking crap.
Is it just me, or is Apple heading towards a completely cheesy looking duplicate of a widows type phone software?
And the first review of it reads, users getting sick from using the new Apple software. ;D ;D
I hope this new Chief doesn't ruin what makes Apple, Apple. To me, Apple has been user friendly and very simple. The first new update seems more complicated, if anything.
Makes me want to go buy a new Apple computer right now before they mess things up. And, never update anything on it. ;D
I won't be updating my ipad to ios 7 anytime soon. Just saw a firiend's iphone and I don't like it at all. I just don't get why both microsoft and apple have taken a backward step with their horrible flat lifeless look. We need another jobs and Gates to get things back on track.
I was initially skeptical. I didn't move to iOS6, even, been on iOS5 forever. Then I found one or two features online that I thought were pretty killer and just went for it. My favorite one, is number blocking... lets you block numbers from calling or texting you (and to be fair, Android has had this feature for a while). Used to be you had to pay your service provider to do this on a wireless plan with iOS. Now, I block junk numbers, and if someone's bugging you, and you don't want to hear her for a while, like your ex-wife ;) you can block her right from the phone... then when you want to talk to her again, unblock.
I have to say that after a day or two of adjusting, I think iOS7 kills iOS 5 and 6. There are so many smart features in it that I didn't even know I would use. The camera is much improved, the Control Center finally lets you get to all the settings you really need with one swipe. The audio integration on iOS was already killer, but now they've got inter-app audio and audio in the background, so with a powerful device you can run a full audio workstation with multiples synth and sampler apps, all with sample-accurate sync. And say what you will about the look, in 6 months everyone else is going to copy the look. I don't mind it, and I've definitely noticed improved screen real estate use with it for many apps.
The downside to me right now is the battery life. I know they will fix this in an update but right now it drains battery faster than iOS5. Apps are allowed to run in the background and update in the background (they didn't before) so you have to actually go into the settings and make sure you turn off background updates for any apps that you don't need it for.
I think the folks that really reap the benefits of iOS 7 (for now) are those who are running it on the iPhone 5S.
My old iPhone 4S would be running dead at the end of the day, barking about 20%, 10% etc... Plug in your charger now!!
I have had the 5S go for 2 days of regular use without charging at all.
I believe this is due to the 64 Bit kernel of iOS 7 running on the 64 bit processor of the 5S. To say that this phone is fast is an understatement. It is ridiculously fast
Effectively, the 5S can perform the same number of operations in half the time, provided the app is either a native 64 bit app from Apple, or has been optimized by the third party developer as a 64 bit application.
I have seen a dramatic improvement in battery life, and speed... No, to be fair I am pretty diligent with closing apps as I finish using them (gotta love how they stole the idea for closing apps from WebOS) so I'm not aware of how battery performance would be if I left background apps running.
I'll try that out tomorrow and see how it goes.
Yeah, my buddy Joe, who's a hardware dev and all around genius engineer, picked up a 5S the other day. He said the native DSP processing power on it is more than some dedicated DSP cards based on the SHARC-type chips.
To be fair, the first thing I did notice was the increased speed of doing damn near everything. That was, and is, impressive. It just doesn't "look" like apple software. kinda cheesy looking.
So, I thought I would try ios 7 after all on my ipad 4.....what a fucking mistake that was. What was once a nice smooth operating system has become extremely jerky and laggy when scrolling anything and when doing the hand grab to close an application there is so much lag when going back to the home screen that I'm about ready to throw the fucking thing in the bin. I have had 2 sessions with apple support and did everything they suggested and still doesn't fix the problem. They have now scheduled to telephone me at 16:30 today so that will be interesting. Oh yes, and best of all they do not allow any downgrade back to ios 6 which was working perfectly fine. And the fucking awful colour scheme is doing my brain in, especially the calendar. I use the calendar a lot, it really is my business bible, but now with the really horrible flat lifeless display and very light grey text it really has made it unusable for me. I hate it, absolutely hate it 100%. I had ios 7 for a couple of days now and tried to like it but I really do hate the fucker, so much so that If this is where things are going I certainly won't be buying any more apple stuff in future and will look at alternatives. AND, the notepad (which I also use a lot) looks fucking awful too, especially where any links within a notepad document are now a very pale yellow, which is almost impossible to see for my eyes. Steve Jobs must be turning in his grave.
Also, from doing just a little bit of googling on it (should have done that before I upgraded) just about everyone on the planet hates it too !
What a pile of shit.
Apple is turning into a bigger crock of shit than I first thought. They arranged to call me this afternoon....they didn't. I then contacted them again by chat and they said they telephoned me but got no reply......No they fucking didn't because I was sitting by the phone awaiting their call at the scheduled time....so basically they are saying "Mr Customer who has given us lots of money....fuck off !" .... charming !
Only thing I can tell you is that if your ipad is slow, it's your ipad, not the new software. My ipad and phone is way faster than it's ever been.
My 4s is a lot faster too. Definitely loads apps way faster than it used to. Looks fine to me now, took a few days of adjustment. There are a lot of accessibility options to increase contrast, bold text, etc... have you looked at those?
Yes, turned on increase contrast and bold type etc. the problem for me is the colour scheme, all very light pastel text colours against ver light backgrounds just makes everything unreadable for my old eyes.
Hook, it's not the ipad as it was lightning fast under ios6....and it's a fourth generation model so should easily cope with ios7
A senior product advisor from Apple just telephoned me. I spent nearly an hour on the phone with her......they didn't realise that the color scheme could cause problems for some people and of course there's no way to change it !!!! Absolutely no way to go back to ios 6, however she said, and I quote...." I have heard that there is a third party application out there that will enable you to restore ios 6"....I asked her what this third party application is and who makes its and she said "I've no idea, I have just heard about it"... What a pile of crap. So I have put in an official complaint and she has given me the address to write to the CEO of apple for a further complaint....she volunteered this information as she said he will "definitely read it" and I said " and then promptly file it in the waste paper bin and do nothing about it " and she just laughed.
Oh, well, I will put the ipad in the drawer in the hope of some future upgrade that might fix these issues and go back to a paper diary...one that I can use any colour font that I like !!!
Picky little dude aren't you. ;D ;D

I think its more a case of once you are the wrong side of 50 your eyes are not as good as they once were and light grey text on very bright white background is almost impossible to see clearly....at least it is for me !
Installed iOS7 both on the iPhone 4S and iPad2.
Both are as fast as they were before the update from iOS6
There're a few problems on the iphone related to the wifi connection (dropout) and the control center (it don't control anything).
A friend of mine own the iPad3 and he is facing a lot of problems with keyboard lagging, slow screen rotation and 26 seconds to update the background image!!
My first impression with the new flat interface was: Wow I'm back to Clipper !!! ( MS DOS 5.0) :)
Anyway 7.0.3 is on the way (this week) and 7.1 in october.... I hope they will fix at least the wifi issue.

I have a HP Envy M6 computer. It hurts my eyes to look at the damn screen. Very washed out looking. "With glasses on"!
The screens are so much better on any Apple device is so good, I can't imagine your having so much of a problem. You need to get your eye's checked dude!! 8-)

Yes I do wear glasses....focusing is not the problem, it is the diminishing ability with age to see very light grey text against a very bight background. All apple has to do to solve this problem for millions of people is give us control over the colour of the fonts !

It doesn't really matter if you "can't imagine" why I am having a problem seeing the text, it simply is that I do have a problem with it, and if you do a quick google there are millions of people with exactly the same problem with ios7 on the ipad. It's a stupid move by apple to ignore us as they will just end up losing a shit load of customers. I was about to change all our phones here and get 3 iphones, but I won't be doing that now because of ios7. Multiply that by several million people and suddenly apple have a problem caused by themselves.
You know I can go to the net with any problem, say with my car for example, and find lots of people complaining about the same thing, right?
Show me millions of people with your same complaint. "Millions".
Apple has sold ~700 million iOS devices.
of course, some people have more than one device... or have purchased multiple. so, allow 7 per customer. 100 million people with iOS devices is a reasonable estimate, I'd say (probably on the low side) - it parallels the early download stats for iOS7.
"Millions" would be ~2% of users.
still incredulous?
We actually have 3 ipads in our house, and I was about to upgrade all of our phones so that would have been a further 3 iphones. As of last week I would most likely upgrade to any new ipad that comes on the horizon in the future....I should have said "would have most likely upraded" etc. As of now, if the only way forward is with ios7 that looks like something that was designed at the time of windows 3.11 and where you cannot change the font colours etc, then as of now I will not be buying any more apple equipment in the future, so they have lost my business. Any business does not like to lose customers, no matter how small or large that number is, but the fact remains they have lost me as a customer for any future ipad or iphone iteration. Multiply that by several million and it IS a big hit to Apple. A company that refuses to listen to its customers very soon discovers that in a short period of time those customers go elsewhere. Piss your customers off and they don't come back. Whatever happened to "the customer is king" or "the customer is always right" ? Lose site of that and you can kiss goodbye to your business.
Oh yes, and by the way I discovered a bug today (and verified this with a friend of mine who bought a new ipad just yesterday with the new ios7 already installed). On random occasions, if you close the current application by using the 4 finger grab motion, when it returns to the home page the icons suddenly become extremely large and then the ipad freezes and the only way to bring it back to life is a full power down. Brilliant eh ?
Well, Apple sold 9 million of the new iPhones in the first 3 days, so I think they're doing okay. According to Apple they've got 200 million devices now on iOS7.
I agree that the gray text on gray background for the Calendar sucks. But I didn't love the old calendar that much either. I'm using Tempo on the iphone--no one needs to use the built in Calendar!
http://www.imore.com/hate-new-calendar-app-ios-7-heres-list-great-alternatives
And yeah, finding a bug sucks... but you're a developer, you know bugs happen.
The flip side for me, because I got a Google Nexus7 at the same time I got the iPad mini, a couple of weeks ago. I am not a huge Android fan, mainly because I just don't "get" the paradigm. And the reason I don't get the paradigm is that there is no paradigm. It's different everywhere I go on the tablet. It's like, I can be this, and that, and this too! And it's just not a unified or enjoyable experience. The iPad is just so clean comparatively. Don't get me wrong, the Nexus7 was cheaper and it's got insane screen real estate. It's a bargain if you can deal with Android. But the most disturbing thing about it is the battery life. I charged both devices on September 27. The iPad mini is now at 50%, and I have used it quite a bit... not for games or anything intensive, but mail, calendar, and note taking in meetings. The Nexus 7 literally died, in my backpack, doing nothing, between Friday the 27th and Monday the 30th. I recharged it, which is a grueling experience... it seems to take forever to charge, you can check back after an hour of charging and the battery will have gained 3%... literally. I had to charge it overnight to get it to charge to 100%. That was on Saturday, the 4th. Today I take it out of my backpack... have not used it at all, but I did leave it powered on... it's at 30%. Fuck me! And it's not broken... tales all over the web of how this is pretty much standard for Android devices...
Huh, I didn't even know about that 4-finger grab motion. you mean minimize, right? it doesn't close the app. I just tried it on a bunch of apps and nothing crashed or got weird... iPad Mini though.

Yes, I meant minimize not close. It froze on me 5 times today doing that and each time needed a complete power-down to bring it back to life.

For a complaint like Jons, yeah. It is. For this to be a reason to put a device in a drawer and not use it, it's crazy. It's like saying, I want sex with a woman, but since she has the ability to speak, I refuse to have sex with her.
Again, where are these millions of people with the exact same complaint as Jon has? Are these millions of people putting their devices, including phones, in a drawer and not using them? We really aren't talking about a broken feature here, just a dislike of the coloration on one particular app or whatever, the calendar. just seems a little petty to me, and I don't get aroused by the cheesy looking shit myself, but everything works, and the devices are in my opinion, working faster and flawlessly. So no, I don't get it.

'Cause mine's been freezing lately just like that while doing extremely radical stuff (like using the GPS, talking on the phone, taking a picture, etc.). ::) :(

Fair point, but it's the way I've used it from day one so it's an automatic thing for me to do and quite frankly I wouldn't expect an upgrade to break something that was working before....more like a downgrade

I can't help it. He doesn't like the color of something and all the sudden Apple should stop" the everything", and fix Jon's picky little color issue. ;D
And since they didn't respond to His, Jon's, request..... well they should damn it, he's fucking Jon, dude. ;D
So they pissed him off about their choice of color and didn't fix it..... so Jon decides that millions, millions mind you, have exactly the same damn complaint. ;D What are the odds?
Yet, 700,000.....or whatever........................................... units sold and most houses have multiple APPLE devices.
So fuck em, I just won't use my $800 ipad or my $500 phone, neither will any of my family members. And that ipod of my sons, yep, that goes too. Straight to the drawer where they can stay . ;D ;D Nothing's broken, it functions as well as ever, just the wrong color calendar.
Thats logic right there my friends. :)
It's not a picky little colour issue...i can't read the damn thing with the stupid washed out colour scheme of very light grey text against either a grey background or a blindingly white background. Just do some googling and you will easily find the people with the same problem. Lucky you for having such perfect eyes...I do apologise that my eyes cannot register those font colour schemes correctly and thankyou for turning my perfectly usable ipad into something that I now cannot use because I can't read it. I apologise for my disability.
Ps, I didn't mention anything about stopping my son from using his ipad. Please do not invent things that I did not say.....you stupid TWAT

Ugggg, all those smiley faces means I'm kidding around with you. (kinda) ;D But since you can't figure that out, figure this out, ____ ___. ;D Jeez dude.
I say again, this is nothing to do with wearing glasses, it's the inability of the eyes to differentiate between certain colours....this has made it unreadable for me . After he saw what it had done to my ipad he said he doesn't want his to look like that ....and my wife has stayed with ios 6 too...if I had know there was no rollback I wouldn't have updated either

Well, for $3 this is a FAR better calendar than the new one... and the old one...
http://www.weekcal.com/
I am not happy that most iPad calendars are paid, but the truth is, I didn't love the iPad calendar before. It was basically a scaled up version of the iPhone calendar, which is great because it's designed for a small screen. The google calendar on a google device (Nexus7) is not all that exciting either. Week Cal looks better than either...
It's also perfectly acceptable to just complain about it and put your $400 device in a drawer. I've taken that route many times (though not usually with something that cost that much). But there is an extremely strong App community out there...
