Just curious...  I haven't thought about this since everything was NTSC standard only.

Can a normal HDTV be used as a PC monitor?  And what's the easiest way?
From what I've seen, yes.  My buddy uses his as a monitor for his laptop sometimes.  The TV (I think it's a Vizio) has a DVI input, so it's pretty simple...
That was the main application I was considering.  Unfortunately, only one of my TV's has an actual DVI input.  A few have the newer HDMI (except my main TV) and all have the VGA input.  Since they also all have the usual, easier to reach, inputs for camcorders and such I'm wondering if there are converters around for PC hookups there - I'll have to Google that...
Wait, didn't you just say they all have VGA inputs? So... what's the problem?
I don't think I have VGA outputs anymore (just dual DVI).

Can you get resolutions above NTSC (640x480) with VGA?
Of course.  You can get any resolution you can get over DVI with a VGA cable.
Cool!  Late last night I think I found a couple of DVI to VGA converters while looking for something else.  I'll have to give them a try sometime. :)
If you have a newer T.V., flat panel type.......read the owners manual. I have a DSP HD T.V. that can't be used as a monitor. Just depends on the T.V. Some can, some can't.
My 65" HDTV is about five years old and doesn't have HDMI or a slot for a cable card.  I can find every other manual I own except the one for this TV so I haven't been able to check it yet.

But just think of the possibilities!  Life-size sheep porn...  ;D
Get the specs for your T.V. on line. Google.
