I've done this before often on my last laptop (xp) but never on my new one (win7). I'm trying rdp programs for the iPad and had no problem logging into my work network. However, I can't log into my own laptop. Yes, it's enabdled.. Tried from work and home with correct ip addy each time. What am I missing?
Wait... how does that work? Doesn't your home computer have an address like 192.168.x.x? Or 10.10.x.x ? or do you have a public internet address?
I guess you could RDP in using the actual public-facing IP, though that changes with something like public DHCP... or you could give your computer a DNS name from a service like Dynamic DNS?
Run
cmd
ipconfig /all
and post the text here.
You should be able to setup port forwarding on your router so that you rdp to your public facing ip address of your router and then that forwards the request for rdp through to the nominated private ip address of your pc. Do you have a static public ip address for your router?
actually, that is what I ran into. I googled it yesterday and I need to do port forwarding on my router. Not possible at work (for me anyway) and I don't know how to do it at home but will check on the PC that the router is hooked up too.

You should be able to log-into your router via a web browser and there will be a setting within that to do port-forwarding. It's usually very straight-forward but of course different makes of routers have completely different interfaces so without actually playing around with your router it is difficult to give you any more info than that. Just make sure you don't open up any ports that you didn't mean to by accident otherwise you could be letting a ton of shit in that you don't want !
Watchout fer Chinese botz.
Splashtop did it! Got it and Cam Cam on sale. VERY COOL!!!
