From the song Cult by Slayer:
Jesus is pain
Jesus is gore
Jesus is the blood
That's spilled in war
He's everything
He's all things dead
He's pulling on the trigger
Pointed at your head!
Discuss.
I'd have to disagree with it.
Jesus.....for all intents and purposes, and from where I sit as an agnostic, is a right well fellow that had great teachings.
The issue isn't Jesus. The issue is the religion. Doesn't matter if it's Christian or not. There are other religions that kill people in "the name of" so to speak.
Religion is pain
Religion is gore
Religion is the shit
That sends us war
Religion's everything
Religion's all things dead
Religion's pulling on the trigger
Pointed at your head!
Those lyrics now make sense to me.
Every time I read Slayer lyrics, it occurs to me that those guys are pretty goddamn stupid.
They never struck me as intelligent guys, but their lyrics just make it worse, in my opinion.
Just dreck and blather. It's a good thing that it's frequently unintelligible, because they really have little of value to say.
I could be wrong, of course, but they haven't given me much reason to believe I am.
I think teenage boys love that shit because their brains haven't formed to the point to realize how dumb it is. Which explains the popularity of Pantera as well. Don't get me wrong, I love their music, but Phil's a fucking idiot, and his words are pathetic and pedestrian.
But I'm a snob that way. Kind of like Charger with the Sabian cymbals.

I agree, Slayer lyrics are often stupid. This is just a tune I stumbled on on imeem, and I heard the lyrics, and thought I'd share.
RE: Slayer, their image bores me and their lyrics are "pedestrian evil". But their music, I think, is fantastic. When they're not doing the double-time egg-beater stuff, their grooves are huge and thick. They are like really good, faster Sabbath. And they were one of the few bands that was able to be really heavy and groovy without going nuts on the gain... their older albums have that medium-gain old Marshall sound that I dig so much.
Heh, I've never heard either a Slayer or a Pantera song...

I do agree with you on the musical aspects of Slayer - a lot of their stuff is just awesome and brutal without being fizz central. I could never get past the "Look at me - I'm fucking EVIL" posturing. I can't stand people like that.

Who the fuck is Slayer? Are they from the 50's or something???
