How many of you know of someone who truly believes the Earth is only 3,900 years old?  (The so-called "Young Earth" theory.)

Turns out my business partner is one of them and some of the "science" they use to prove this is just whacked.  Of course, as is typical with many religious types, opposing views are supposed to be respected though they never let you finish a sentence and discount you immediately.  I love how they use one quack science to prove one thing and vice-versa...  Bleh.

Maybe it's just me, but I would think this is one the easiest of the so-called "religious truths" to debunk, no? :-?
No one aside from internet loons - doubt they would fall into my social sphere in real life.

Religious nuts don't do "science" - though they sure love the technology when it comes to nukes.
I was invited to a free brainwashing, er, science conference tonight where a guy with THREE PhD's was going to fully explain the "science" behind the young Earth concept.

10 seconds with Google and I was able to determine that the guy (Ken Ham) only earned a BS in Austrailia and was awarded three "honorary" doctorates by heavily religious institutes (no agend there, eh?).

I also found a website that uses "real" science to dispute the 30 or so "proofs" put forth by the Creationists...  After reading a few I'm amazed that people believe still - of course, more than anything, humans want to be "right!"  (Right? ;) )

But what do you expect?  There's STILL a Flat Earth Society out there who is busy working out all of the related science required to explain how the sun and moon work...  *Sigh...* :-?
But how old is the oil?  heh heh
3900?  Young earth, as explained to me was always 6,000 years old.  These guys must "fucking young a shit young earth" people.

It never ceases to amaze me what a theologian will believe and the absolute mental hula hoops they must jump through to know that which requires only faith.
I've seen 6,000 since as well...  Geez, they can't even keep their fantasies accurate!  ;)
I did work with some "born again"  loons including a seventh day adventist for a couple of weeks in a student job years ago.
The thing I remember is they obviously had some issues with each others differing fundy beliefs, I could detect hostility, even though they were so happy clappy and kept a unified face in front of me - I was obviously considered- "the mark" - they had a truce for the competition of conversion of this 21 year old student.

A weirdo work place.

Pretty futile to argue against them though I did.
The usual situation  Anything they couldn't explain (didn't know the party line)  was dismissed as planted by the devil to deceive - so the "science" pretence is discarded.

Usually followed the next working day once they have gone away and consulted with their "gurus" with a "scientific argument.

One I remember was I brought up fossils  - it was dismissed as devil planted deception.
Next day it was evidence of the flood.

It  passed the  time doing a boring job
Quite funny they actually thought I was convertible to their dumb ass cults,

The extra weird thing about that place is it also included this off beat drop out guy who was into Zen stuff  they all universally hated him.

But the really extra weird thing was this guy kept a bunch of girlie mags down in the store room I worked out of, which included a model that I knew personally.

She was the wild child younger sister of a guy I knew at Uni, I met her at a party in the final year, I wasn't surprised to see her in the mag, put it this way I recognised the face, tits and vag :)
Just surprised to happen to find it in this collection.

Just topped off the weirdness of those 2 weeks
If you ever see them again you'll have to tell them that you're a Pastafarian now and that you sincerely hope that they will be touched by His noodly appendage.  :D ;D
im sure howie is down with the young earth theory.. :D
