Not sure where to put science threads.

Amazing feat to me.

There is no telling what might come of this.

This is really going to make some people scratch their heads.  If life can be created in a lab, does that invalidate one of the central tenets of theism?
Very interesting!

(I hear the new single-cell is already considering a run for Congress...  ;) )
It's still using an existing  cell structure
and replacing the DNA.

Analagous to creating and installing new software into a computer
Still amazing but not the full story in the creation of life.
The cell machine tends to be overlooked with all the focus on DNA and genetics.

But it is actually by far the hardest  to create artificially and to
explain how it came into existence.

I bet it doesn't to the true belivers. I can see them saying that the scientists only copied God. God left a blueprint ect.

When scientists actually create a "usable" blackhole it might though. ;D Reckon what Jules Verne would think about it were he today?? :)

And like fingers said.....they didn't fashion the actual cell. They have a lot of work ahead.

Still ,it's an amazing thing. Perhaps the technology will expand fast like Mr. Venter thinks it will.

Waste of money? Not compared to your excellent choice in vehicles. :D

I just really don't care about this stuff. I'd put this money in stem cell research.
How about a customized stem cell?  Just the sort of thing this technology could produce.
I'd rather have a customized motorcycle. :D

If it does some good with curing cancer etc., I wouldn't be against it I guess.
