The Watering Hole

Have spent about 12 hours now with the new Vox. I know most of you don't care anything about reviews on modeling amps. But I'm posting anyway. Get over it ;)

Honestly, I'm posting this because there are always folks looking for decent tone, but don't have the $ to buy a high dollar amp. Or need more than 5 watts out of a lower priced tube amp.

I grabbed this Vox AD100VT 2x12 100 watt combo on a whim because they gave me a great deal. Trade included I have approx $225 in this amp total.

$225 for a 100 watt 2x12 combo amp with 8 very usable amp models (there are 11, but 3 of them suck ass). And all 8 take pedals very well.

You are not going to get that nice grainy tone from a true point to point all tube amp on this amp. BUT...you are going to get pretty solid tones that can be 'richened up' (I made that phrase up) by better quality stomp boxes. My RP 500 is by no means a quality stomp box. But the TS808 on it is adding some really rich texture to the tone on the channels I have created.

And I have to add this plug....The Vox AC30TB model IS a Vox AC30TB. I don't know if they just copied what is in the circuitry of the AC30TB, or modeled it....but either way they got it spot on. This amp model is SPANKIN!!!!  If nothing else...I got an AC30TB 2x12 combo for $225.

The Dual Rectumfier isn't bad either....
What do I Know, I am liking the sound of my $99 Valve Jr with valve stomps in front (except the reverb pedal which is digital) So I have no real opinion on the Vox (since I am a cheap date when it comes to tone) but if you like it, all the better. I can say one thing about one Vox product however my Tonelab pretty much sucks compared to the XT I once had and the GNX2 I still do have. It has one use, recording clean sounds and with a valve stomp in front it records distortions rather nicely.
Congrats for your new amp Johnny !
IMHO the valveReactor is a really good technology ! I've had the VT60 (the "old" blue version both combo and head version) and now I own the AC30VR 2x12 that's simply awesome !

The AC30 was one of the best amp emulations on the VT60 too ! :)

Ciao !
Marco
I agree with ya DBM...I had a Tonelab for about a week some time ago. Did not like anything it had to offer distortion-wise. That's why I only had it for a week  ;)

Like Marco said, the valve reactor technology works nicely. Esp when the amp is turned up. That's what I liked about the 2 'old blue' versions I had before. Add that to newer and better models in the pre stage = pretty decent tones that get better the harder the amp is driven.

Another thing I've noticed is how sensitive all of the EQ knobs are. They are every bit as reactive as the EQ knobs on my JSX were.

And at 100 watts, it is LOUD. Doesn't vaporize the cat like my Roadster did (that was a true story, btw), but it does a great job of pissing off the neighbors. Another true story....

Congrats Johnnny.  Sounds like a good and cheap score.
