After spending a good bit of time reading up on the Quick Rod amp, it seems one of the most suggested/favored speakers is the G12H30 (and at a lesser clip, the G12M Heritage, G12M-25 Greenback and even the Eminence Governor)....my question is this, I don't play live, not concerned with the way a cab sounds for that, is there any harm in putting multiple types of speakers in the cab for recording purposes - how can you place a v30 rated @60watt, a G12T-75 rated for 75watt, a G12H30 @ 30watt, etc, and keep your gear safe from damage? I've seen people saying they do this, but is it alright? I know to a degree its safe, but a 30watt capable speaker mixed in with 75?
Bottom line - I wan't to go buy a single G12H30 (16ohm) and slap it in the cab so I can mic it for recording, with the remaining three speakers being a v30 and 2 x G12T-75, all three 16ohm and all three happen to sound really nice with the Marshall head - thats also why I don't feel like buying another cab just for the Splawn, least not at this time, no room, no need, no $. Will this speaker setup harm the amp or speakers? I only play at normal/med volumes? Thanks.
Matching the ohmage is what your after, as far as wattage goes, I don't think it matters. It's just that all of the speakers will be breaking up at different intervals. I mean, if a Marshall cab has 4- 16ohm, 25 watt speakers and a 100W Marshall head can crank them up, I wouldn't worry about having a V30 or a G12H in the equation.

Yeah, by all means, mix them up. Why not? Is there actually any chance you will be running more than 30 watts to a single speaker in your cab? Meaning, you will be running something like 120 watts all out to the cab? Just keep the resistances the same.
Thanks for the help fellas, was big, wanted to be clear on it sooner rather than later - I wanted to order today to have it by the weekend (local GC stock very few speakers)....just ordered from MF a G12H-30 based on your replies and also trolling through a few more forums where dudes were saying they personally love/have a v30 paired up in the same cab with a G12H, etc, so I feel good about it! My 120 watt potential days ended when The Assman bought the Peavey! ;)
Oh yeah, the V30 and a G12H, match made in heavy-n! ;)

I heard a guy the other night who was using a stock USA Strat > a couple of different pedals > Marshall DSL60 Head > Marshall 4x12 Angled cab.
Tone was pure heaven so I grabbed him during the break and asked him about his gear.
Quote....."It's all stock shit except the cab which I've loaded with 2 Greenbacks and 2 V30's mounted diagonaly opposite each other. That way, when I'm in a studio, I can mic whichever speaker I want at the angle I want depending on the room and 99 times out of 100...I'll get the sound I want".
+1 on the speaker coil resistance. Make sure they'er all the same and wired up right and yuo'll be good to go forever.
Let us know how you get on.
and just so you know, the Wizard I've been raving about is a G12H copy. So what I've said about the Wiz, for the most part applies to the G12H as well. I love the thing!
I would have ordered them from Avatar Cabs. They have a speaker called the Hellatone 30. It's a Celestion G12H30 already broken in for you.
Thanks again for all the input - I started to pull the trigger on the Hellatone, those were mentioned on the Splawn forum, just not nearly as often as the G12H, but still, there was a guy in TN selling a Splawn 4x12 cab fully loaded with the Hellatones, but shit, $500 + shipping and I just don't have the room for another cab...maybe a 2x12 is on the gas list, but eh, for now the G12H30 is on the way and I think it'll sound good no matter where my amp needs turn over the years.
consider a lead 80! the clarity would really suit your lead style, imo... 4x12 - v30, t75, L80, g12h30... so many mic'ing options.
if it were me, I'd go v30, t75, L80 and greenback but that's just because I never did get to be fond of the g12h30 and I've never owned a greenback...
you've got me thinking of getting out that g12h30 again though...
