Which K240's?

Any chance of getting down the the local store and trying both out for comparison?  I have the top ones but don't know if or how much the new ones might be superior.
Thanks Howie...  I haven't been to a music store in years, would love to have the time to do that.  Basically if most people here have the first ones (and I know everybody loves these phones) than that's good enough for me.  I just didn't know which model everybody had/has.
The top ones.  I have older ones even than that, before they upped the gain.  Mine are quiet-- those, at 55 ohms and 91dB/mw, will have plenty of volume.  I like that the headphone cable is now detachable, on the old ones (including mine) that was the most common point of failure.  More time than I ever wanted to spend with a soldering iron over a pair of headphones.
I bought AKG 240 DF's 7 years ago - and they are now my standard, I can't make a judgement without them.

Dunno about the later versions - but if these break I would want another pair of the same as my ears have calibrated to them.

I recall my initial experience of them wasn't positive - as they are fairly dry and bleak and don't rose tint.

Cool, thanks guys...  Going on my XMAS list :)  (Which can be bigger since they are the cheaper pair)

I'm late but FWIW, I also have an older pair of the top ones as well, like 10 years older, lol, the 600 ohm version. The volume has to be cranked but they still sound great.
mine are the newer, more efficient ones, but they are still probably 7 years old or so.  They're pretty good headphones.  A little bass heavy, but hey, it's rock and roll.
I have the top ones, and they are at least 23 years old, they still work great.

Damn, if that's not a testiment to build quality, nothing is. Reminded me about something funny with my set...many years ago a singer pal of mine was here jamming (he's a sick keyboard/piano player) and he happened to bring his puppy with him, the damn thing chewed the cord in half! He offered to buy me a new pair, I told him I'd try and repair it first and if it worked properly, not to worry. They're still working. Not sure what happened to the dog.  ;D
I had 4 pair of the 240's when I had my analog studio, and I had an 8 channel headphone amp/line mixer. I gave one set to my kiddo, and sold the other two at a flea market in St Augustine Florida in the early 1990's.
They've been around for a while then

maybe find  a fossilised pair in the Burgess shale.  ;D
