i'm looking to get a new preamp dealie pretty soon here. i borrowed a friend's custom audio electronics 3+se preamp and i really loved it. so i might be getting that, but if i spend a couple hundred bucks more i could get the axe fx 2. thing is, the 2 drive channels on the 3+se are pretty important to me. i see that they are modeled in the axe fx but i can't seem to find any clips anywhere on the web. can someone help a mexican out here?  ;)

Not sure if anybody does.  JonG had one for awhile, but got rid of it (it's a tube thing).  Chase had one (got rid of his Bogner Ecstasy Classic after getting it; said the AxeFX one was 95% there), but the last time I saw him was back at the Hole.  

Assman has one, but haven't seen him here much.  He may even have a AxeFX 2.  Might fire him a message.

Has anyone heard from Chase?  Hope all is well with that cat.

Actually it's not really "a tube thing" is a "touch thing".  I really wouldn't be bothered if it had tubes or not if it had the same touch sensitivity of a tube amp.  I really like to play with dynamics from very clean to digging in for some dirt and then beyond.  Whilst the Axe FX and the Kemper both go some way towards that, it still isn't the same at all, plus there is still definitely that digital "chirp" to both units. On the other hand of course if you play with lots of gain and don't really use dynamics then it almost doesn't matter what you go for as you wouldn't notice the lack of dynamics anyway.   I doubt I will be buying any digital amps for a long time to come if ever again.

thanks guys. i actually finally found some clips of the axe fx 2 models of the preamp and was not impressed. not even close to the sound of the 3+ se. guess i'll be sticking to the cae preamp

The Kemper has a few CAE amp Profiles on it...not sure what CAE you're looking for.

Just a quick clip using a CAE100 Profile with the stock settings, miked with an SM57.
It can be tweaked all over the place from here, change cab/mic, etc.

Bad playing, recorded into a Soundblaster Live Soundcard, guitar may be out of tune.  ;D

thanks lance. that actually sounds like the caa od-100. kind of similar, but not quite the same as the cae preamp. i hadnt really considered profiling before. might have to look into that kpa some

The axe-fx standard is in a 4u rack with a furman and a solid state poweramp running into a 2x12 cab with v30s. I shit you not it was the last piece of gear I bought a few years ago. Ended my GAS on the spot. Luke somebody  above said , it's a 95% tone solution that makes life way too easy. Haven't gotten to play the newer one , but it's hard to imagine it went backwards.

And for the record I do miss my bogner, just not enough to buy another one...
