One of my buddies (Howie, my buddy Jason I work with) just got an Artist demo Hot Cat 100 directly from BadCat (this one was owned by Steve Wilson of Porcupine Tree). OMFG!!! Initially we hooked it up to a Recto 412. Very nice, articulate cleans. Distortion side was less compressed that my Mark V. Later we hooked it up to a Recto 212 and one of the other guys dialed it in a manner we hadn't and the lead side went from sounding good to UNREAL!!! It really liked the smaller cab and the re-dialing did it mucho justice. It makes me lust for the 30watt version. It also had a blend function where both the clean and distorted sides could be blended into the sound.
Another thing, this amp is LOUDER THAN FUCK!!! We had it in 50 watt mode and we didn't have to crack the volume very far before it was pinning your ears back. IN 50 WATT MODE!!! We didn't even hit the 100watt mode. Wow.
that sounds awesome. Tell Jason to enjoy it!
It's funny how people move up the amp chain. I had a buddy (actually came into the Watering Hole several times but didnt stick around) who lives close by who had 2 Bad Cats a couple years ago. At the time, he was telling me how they were the greatest amps ever and he just LOVED THEM. (It's actually the guy Jamie bought his classic 30 from, now that I think about it). Anyway, he sent me an email a few weeks ago asking about a certain pedal, and I said "how are those Bad Cats doing?" He said "I got rid of them and am using Matchless now. Best amps I've ever heard." I'm thinking more and more that the way amps are voiced differently makes preference and the other equipment used with them, become big factors. One amp is bright, one is fat, a third is fat but the boost is at a lower mids frequency, etc. etc... So three different guys might all pick different favorites from that group based on what the like AND how their gear meshes with that amp.
In any event, I'm sure Bad Cat is near the top of the heap.
It's your new avatar...so did you make a deal and pick it up!?!? Those things are pricey but supposedley sound incred. Sure looks unique!
I didn't pick up a 100, but consummated the deal last night for a HotCat 30. Ended up trading my Mark V combo for it with a guy on The Gear Page. The HotCat should get here Thursday. Worst part is I won't get to play it till Saturday. I'm gigging in Charleston Thursday through Friday night (amp getting delivered to my work address).
The 30 is more than enough power for me. The 100 got RIDICULOUSLY loud really quick, even in 50 watt mode. Any of my Boogies were easier to control the volume on.
Nice! Congrats! Lookin' forward to the porn when it shows up!
Looks like the 30 will arrive Wednesday instead of Thursday. WOOT!!!!
please let us know how you like it. Great amps, from all I've heard!
Worst part is I won't have a lot of time the next few days to even play it. Orchestra gigs are picking up at the end of the week and I have no speakers in my unloaded 212. I'm hoping to borrow a loaded Earcandy 112 from my buddy Jason, but the soonest that will likely make it in to the store is Thursday. Oh well. ;D
