I just bought two of these mics. What a glorious punchy sound these things capture running through 2 Golden Age vintage Pre-73 mkii  (clone of neve 1073)

Just been playing around with them today recording many different test signals.  Electric guitar on cab, one close and one in the room gives a lovely big sound with an excellent smooth top end that the M160 has.

Also just tried recording the house stereo system using the M160's for a big room sound just for testing the weight that these mics can capture.  Amazingly detailed punchy sound and again nice an smooth on the top end.

Those are f*cking expensive... wow.  Did you get old ones or new ones?

I bought new ones. They are expensive, but the way I look at it is that it's better to buy a couple of great mics than keep buying lots of cheap not-so-great mics.  I will put some clips up at the weekend.
They're definitely a go-to on guitar cabs. One of the few ribbon mics that is cardioid and not omnidirectional.  I love ribbon mics on vocals and we use them on guitar and rooms, but could never afford something in that realm.  Lately we've been buying chinese ribbon mics, replacing the transformers, and replacing the ribbons with ones we make. It's a lot of work, especially making, corrugating and installing the ribbons, but it saves us a bunch of money.  If I wasn't so inclined to DIY I would have so much less gear...
I used to be really into electronics and building stuff years ago but as I get older I just don't have the patience for it any more. Making your own ribbons must take forever.  Damn, I'm 55 next month.....how the fuck did that happen  :)

I will get some clips done this weekend and put them up
