Is in the house at our shop!!! We're gonna un-box it afterwhile and fire this puppy up!!! Stay tuned for the hands-on report!!!
I'm going to hold off on impressions until I can try it with the 212 cab made for it. I've tried it through a couple different cabs and thought I'd hold off saying anything until I can do this because my response is rather tepid through the other cabs.
hmmmm, if the others are known, good cab/speakers, then it should sound good with them if you tried several combos...
We tried it through a Peavey Triple XXX cab (YUCK) and a Genz Benz G-Flex. It was definitely LOTS better through the Genz Benz. But I'm also not a big fan of the G-flex cab in it's stock Eminence Speakers. So I'm thinking it might be best to see how it sounds through the stock cab.
The Bogner Cab comes with a Heritage Greenback and a G12H Anniversary speakers. (not too shabby).
That said, they're starting to appear on store shelves. Anybody interested should go try one at the least.
I was interested in it at first. But they put the price up $300 from the initial price point before production. That was the deal killer for me. Truthfully I get all the tone I want from my Hot Rod Deluxe with stomps. (The distortion tone I like comes from the stomps more than the amp anyways) If I had to live with the overdrive channel and reverb of the HRD I would upgrade to another brand amp.
This morning, before the store opened, I plugged the Alchemist into the Fender Metalhead cab. Without looking at the eq on the lead channel, I fired it up and it sounded AWESOME!! Then I looked at the EQ and was quite surprised at what I saw. Whoever had played it before had dimed the 3 eq knobs!!! Most of us would never think to do that. I know I wouldn't have. Through that cab, with this eq, and my Prestige Ibanez S with Bare Knuckle Nailbombs, this amp finlly sounded quite good.
This makes me REALLY want to hear it through the 212 cab designed for it. We should be seeing it Tuesday. Hell, considering how the cab is loaded, I may pick it up.
Damn, just got the new MF and was reading a post on another website....
The damn Alchemist is MADE in friggin' CHINA! WTF? ;D
Man, is nothing sacred anymore? ;)
Randy
Randy, Chinese labor is sacred! :D It is interesting how it's allowing big name boutique guys to bring quality product to the masses, though, ala Rebel 20.
Still...any report on the workmanship and reliability? :D
Randy
We got our 2nd head in a couple days ago. Buildwise, it looks pretty decent. We have a Marshall JVM that looks like it was built cheaper. The cab is very cool. 2 Heritage (British) Celestions in an oversize, open-back 212 cab. Overall, it sounds a lot better than most Chinese made crap out there. Reliability? Too soon to tell. These puppies are just coming out, so it's too soon.
