Looks like some hands are being forced to deal now, people are finally giving up some of the goods...hope for all our sakes that doesn't last much longer, have to admit I felt fortunate for the opportunity to buy a luxury item while many, many are suddenly/first time jobless, etc.

Anyway, I was BLOWN AWAY by the tone that squawked out of this thing, genuine, thick ass Marshall flavor, the stuff of yum, seriously, quoting Jonah Hill from Forgetting Sarah Marshall - *I just went from six to midnight* after hitting the first chunky chord. (-;

It's in excellent condition, hard to believe really, I mean there is not a single tear in the tolex on the face, top and sides (and only 1 tiny tear on the back)....for 20+ years old, it's MINT.

Just dropped in a brand new set of JJ's across the board.

It never spent time in smoke filled clubs I'm guessing either. The store owner says the previous guy (small town, eveyone knows everyone) is more a collector than a player and is the original, first purchaser of the amp, said he didn't want to turn it loose, brought it in on consignment actually in hopes of nabbing it back if things got better for him....BUT, all that said and to put it into perspective - the guy did give up this JCM 800 FIRST, he's still holding onto his PLEXI, lol! Can't blame him! (=

They run a smallish 'boutique' style shop and apparently ask all happy customers for a "quick pic" for their wall and site, etc. Nasty shot of me but I like the lighting, you can tell the tolex is truly green, I kinda think its sexy, not so 'dime-a-dozen' looking anyway...and tomorrow it gets pimped with Armor-All, lol!

That's sweet, especially in the green Tolex.  Hope you like the sound, and looking forward to hearing it.
fucking cooooool.
Hehe... You look like that cat that ate the canary in that pic!  (And why the hell not?  That amp is one sexy looking lady! :) )

What year was it made?

Thanks all! I definitely want to record something with it ASAP, top of my list, but man, full plate for the next couple of days, hell, I had friday planned off for over a week and its still not looking like I can get all the silly stuff knocked out today to free up the weekend...gonna head out in a few and meet someone the music store dude suggested to me (said he might have a nice cab at a great price to pair up with the green guy), got family scheduled for a hit this afternoon, have to visit Lowes today for some paint - want to paint the music/media room (finally), have to clean up a bit, have an appraiser coming within the next couple of days (refinanced, 5.0 baby, are you kidding!!), etc!

I took a shot of the build date sticker inside the amp (came out fuzzy), was 2/2/87 I blieve. Its a 2205 and the nice thing about it is (from what info I could scrounge off the web - so ya never know) is that the early 80s 2205 had a minor issue of channel bleed, the normal would spill over into the boost - Marshall quietly fixed that at the start of '86, so all is well - was the first thing I checked with the amp actually...WHEW!

<drool>

grats, that's awesome!
Rock on brother!!  Can't wait to hear it!!
Nice score Schils!  Sweet!!!

And thanks for the porn!  I always like to see what they used in some of those classic amps.
Well hopefully the seller will console themself with the fact that  the amp has gone to a good home. :)

Congrats.

I've known people who put stuff in pawn fully expecting to get it back and come back and it's gone.  Feel bad for the guy.  But at least it did go to a good home!

Schils, do you allow conjugal visits?   ;)
Thanks again.  :)

Yeah, I can't feel that bad for the other guy, I mean sure, a child of his was both lost and found in under a week, just means he has more time to devote to his Plexi, pooooooor bastid.  :'(  ;D

Misson complete! And this stray was an even better deal, no stores, no taxes, no fuss, etc...just offered a guy in his garage $400 straight up and he snagged it! Its also in really nice shape! I don't know dick about speakers though (they're G12T-75), they sounded great there (with his horribly setup LP custom & an Orange head of some sorts). I'm hoping these are a nice match for the amp, haven't tried it yet - I do have the pair of v30s in the other cab just in case, but that cab is clearly a notch or two below this one...

Those speakers are just a good, solid, everyday use speaker that you might be perfectly happy with (I used to use them in 1x12's as extension speakers for my Vetta II).  After that, you're going to want to decide on the tone you're going for.  If you put the v30's in then I seem to recall you'll want to put them in top left and bottom right or top right and bottom left (i.e., diagonally) for the best effect.  You also don't want ALL v30's, you need another type to mellow them out (I use Celestion G12H30 70th Year Anniversary Specials with my v30's).

I can't for the life of me remember which does which, but one of the speakers tames the top end and the other type tightens up the low end which is why they work so well together.  In any event, all v30's will either have too much top end or not enough!

Time to break out the Ibanez and let it shred!!
Hehe, well, lately the Jackson has been getting the attention.

Great info Craig, thanks. If I'm only close mic'ing one speaker though, no second mic, no room mic, etc, does the rest of that really affect anything? I LOVE the v30 sound, would like to drop them in here X style and continue on with it - but not if that somehow harms anything, meaning my v30s are rated @8 ohm and these are all 16, so I dunno, thats where I get lost....maybe these will just kick some ass and it won't matter, but then that would be too simple for me and that of course never pans out, lol. Shall see soon enough. (=

Don't confuse Memorex with live Fingers!  ;)

Please ignore the Englishman, he's just having a piss. ;)

I've uploaded my Rectifier Recording Pre for you to look at because it has a lot of very good definitions and pictures of speaker setups that will help you keep your ohm's straight (along with series vs. parallel, etc.).  Just start on page 23.

Clips!

I like the stack of doom you are building there...  You can't do stuff like that here in CA.  Well, you can, but it's pretty much gonna egg on a nice earthquake to knock it down...  LOL

I hear ya, guess you guys are used to that, must suck though, I'd hate it - we had ONE minor quake in all these years, forgot what the meter said, happened in the middle of the night, it was enough to wake me and scare the fuckin life outta me, felt the wall/floor vibrating, as if someone was gently shaking my bed, picture fell off the wall, etc, thought my house was sliding down the hill! It was a first (and only so far) quake experience!!

As for the stack-o-junk, no way it stays that way, I just threw the stuff up there for now, very limited space, lol, I have to figure something out!

We native Kalifornianers (past and present) tend to take an alternative view of the quakes since you have to get used to them.  Whenever we felt one starting up there are several of us that used to jump up on our couches and "surf" the quake.  I guess it was just a stupid human attempt to pretend that it was nothing.  I've been in the wrong place at the wrong time during a few of the largest ones down there (one 6.something and two 7+) - truly "HOLY SHIT! FUCK! WE'RE GOING TO DIE!!!" type experiences.

So now I live in the Pacific Northwest where nothing really shakes (except under the volcanos), however, one of the largest fault lines in the world is about 60 miles off the coast.  It just happens to be a mirror image in both length, shape and location to the shore as the fault line that produced the 9+ off the coast of Indonesia a few Winters ago.  We WILL have one that size here someday (and we're overdue now) but when you're dealing with events that occur every 500,000 years or so, maybe I won't be here when it happens.
Schills....that's one sweet amp brutha! Question......how are ya gonna use it? You original tone is old school Peavey based (Rockmaster). Plus you've been using a Peavey amp. Higher gain, if you will.

You backing off the gain for your newer stuff, or are you going to be running pedals in front of it? Or does it have a lot of gain for an 800?

With you playing through it, it's gonna sound good however. I was just curious :)

Thanks Johnny. Actually though, with both the Rockmaster and now the 6505+, I never used the lead channels, only the crunch channels, I really don't use mondo distortion, I don't do "brootalz" lol! I use a clean boost in front of the amp for solo/lead stuff, will have to do that with the 800 as well, otherwise I couldn't do hairy stuff, I mean the gain is there for a nice lead tone, but just falls short of that creamy, sustaining thing, your legato's don't last very long as is, lol. The Bad Monkey is great for that though, transparent as could be when set fully clean and just some level to push the amp, no coloring, etc. I kept the 6505+ however because the cleans on the 800 are "heh" at best but pretty sweet on the Peavey.

Great thing I discovered yesterday about the new amp - I took a break from painting to fire it up a bit since I moved the new cab into the "cab room" (the gutted and fully sound treated closet) - maybe I got used to the volume level of a 120watt head running with the post at 4, but the 50watt Marshall can be near FULLY CRANKED in there and be around the same level! Its great news for me....you know the saying about Marshalls I'm sure, "if you can't crank it, don't buy it!" Not sure I completely agree with that, I mean a boost pedal in front of it is yeilding some sick tones at lower levels, but yeah, nice to hear that I CAN crank this thing to get more of 'that sound' and hardly hear it (with the door closed that is -- I've always actually played and listened through mic'd sound at the monitors with a nice, comfy conversation level). And that is without a THD! I could add a 16ohm Hotplate and set it for minimal and prolly dime this thing!

Gotta say, I liked the v30s better than these G12T75 though (so far, with the raw ear that is, doesn't mean they won't track great), but I can see myself buying at least one v30 @ 16ohm to slap in the cab for recording.
SCHILSY!!!  :) Whats up brah?!?! Long time no see/hear. Good to see ya back man, and toting dynamite no less!

Nice score man! It's a 50 watt?? Just like Michael Schenker used in the 80's! Very pristine condish, noice! As far as the 75's go, they are mostly for hard rock and metal. They have sort of a mid-scoop built-in. If I were you, I would definitely try those two V30's in that 4x12. They would fill in that mid void and add some top end sparkle! Can't wait for those clips!

cgtrox  8-)

Hello Chris, nice to be here, thanks.

Yes, its 50watt, an '87 2205 to be specific. No problem cranking it either, its loud, but not stupid loud IMO, in the booth its pretty tame actually, no need for a hotplate.

I fully agree with ya about the speakers!! Had another night of messing with things - I'm CERTAIN now that I'm heading to GC this weekend and using that 10% off coupon for a single 16ohm v30 to slap in there (the ones I have are @8, not much use now, might place the pair in my Fender 2x12 cab for a goof, but I've grown to hate that open backed cab anyway, eh). My cab space only has sufficient room for one 4x12 (at a time), a mic stand or two and a little space for air, etc...I don't wanna be rolling in/out each cab for specific stuff, so slapping a v30 beside a G12T75 in the same cab will work well for me purley for close recording shit, best of both worlds really, several win-win options: thinking I'll be micing one for rhythm tracking - the G12T75 with its relaxed mids, I'll mic the complimentary v30 with its pronounced mids for lead/solo, or hell, I could even close mic each of those two speakers (maybe one off axis, one on) for a great blended rhythm tone, etc, etc...should be a deadly combo either way methinks...and then there is always the crunchy Peavey to add to the mix. (-;

I've been reading up on the G12T75 anyway, seems like for most players, they feel it only sounds great with Marshalls due to the amps particular voicing, but those same folks hate them with nearly any other amp they own, heh. Whatever, for rhythm work and my new amp, I'm really stoked with the setup. I nearly tossed up a quick clip last night I was so giddy with the sound, growly+juicy+bite! I'd rather wait until I dial it in more though, lol!
