I bought my Mesa 1x12 matching cab for my Mini Rec this weekend, from the Boogieboy himself! Well, he's now changed his name to Dearthian the gear pimp and artist formerly know as Boogieboy.
Not to brag of course, but how many of you can say that? ;D
Out of all my parent's offspring, I'm the only one who hasn't bought a cab from Dearthian.
and you call yourself a CUSTOMER??? ::) Come on Craig. As much gear as you have.... share the love, man. (by love I mean MONEY of course! :o)
I figured it out, I'm currently making about $3 an hour working seven days a week. Once I have any spare money, I'll consider it - I love my Rectifier Recording Pre so I'm sure I'd like the Mini-Rec too.
Maybe I should make my new name Dearthian: The Gear Hocker. LOL Thank goodness Howie left Mrs. DTR with daughter of DTR; she would have been a hard bargainer. LOL
Hmmm.... I am bringing her next time. Maybe I can get that PRS SE for $299! ;D
Heh, she might want to wear something nice if she's wanting that kind of deal. ;). LOL
I don't know exactly what she does, but every time she buys me something she gets one heck of a deal!. The guy I've dealt with for years at Guitar Center jokes every time she goes in with me "oh no, there goes my commission." LOL

She knows the secret. and I will reveal it to you right now;
You gotta be able to walk away from any deal, no matter how bad you want the item if you can walk away from it because the price is too high the salesman will know that, so just walk awayOnce you know you are in control because you have the money, and the ability to walk from any deal, you are in control........
She don't want the guitars like you do she only wants to please you, so she can walk today, and worry later.
Learn that lesson. I know this because I sold RV's for a living. I know the sales techniques, so I am in control of the game when I go to buy something. I can walk from any deal
easy And never let them know you want what you are looking at. Make them want to sell it to you........
Besides the above, I always know what the markup is on any retail item. And I know the musical instrument dealers can not sell it for less than Minimum Advertised Price, MAP for short. However if you want a Mesa Boogie for less than Mesa allows, you bring in a junk guitar worth 50 bucks and get them to sell you the item for 15% under MAP with the guitar as that 15% trade. Mesa's retailer mark up is probably 20%, You can find that out somehow. Most musical instruments is marked up at 40% above dealer cost. And MAP is somewhere near half that for the dealers benefit.
PAC (Dealer costs to floor an item) is usually 6% above cost, so that is the absolute bottom line, for something that has to go from the dealers perspective.
If you go into a store drooling over an item, you belong to the salesman. If you go in with the attitude that you are disinterested and just there because you are bored, you again are in control, of yourself, and of the salesman......
Best advice I ever got from a fictional character.
Don Corleone slaps his son Sonny in the face, "Never tell them what you are thinking" after the encounter with the drug dealer. That my friend is great advice.
Whew, and here I was worried that she was flashing them her boobs or something! ;D
DreamTheaterRules — Sep 05, 2013Whew, and here I was worried that she was flashing them her boobs or something! ;D
Why worry, the boobs can't get pregnant, nor can they bring home diseases..... ;D
You might get that SE for $299 if that happened. :D :D
Hmmm, only $100 bucks off??? You obviously haven't seen them! :o :o

Pimpin, pimpin, pimpin... Tsk. Tsk. Tsk Howie. ;D
;D ;D
And Chris doesn't know WHAT to say! :D
If I had seen them, you might have gotten a break on that Boogie. That's what I call 'hard' negotiations. LOL
For you Seinfeld fans.... Nah, I can't do it...
You know, your salepeople would be even happier to see the two of you...and commission would be the last thing on their mind. LOL
Remember Teri Hatcher on Seinfeld? LMAO!!!
I believe it...which means your discount gets even better. LOL
;D ;D
p.s. I got an email from GC yesterday that they are selling Mesa "far below cost" now to clear out whats left. He said I could get an express 5;50 1x12 combo for $679 new! HOLY CRAP! If they had a TA-15 head for about $399 I might have to buy it! LOL
My local GC is blowing out the MESA gear as well and fuck me I wish I was loaded ($)...they have a new Royal Atlantic (head) going for $999. Are you kidding?! That's 50% off. Pfft. LOVE that amp...if only it would still magically be there come bonus time - it'd be mine. >:(
Does the blowout include the new Mesa pedals? Been thinking a flux drive might make a nice 3rd channel
I would think it does...they're cutting ties completely. Lots of rumors why, from to GC being a sinking ship and MESA not wanting to be attactched to that scene in any way, to GC claiming they simply don't wan't MESA on board any more because they're tough to deal with (ever try to use a coupon towards MESA stuff there? DENIED, lol)...to GC not being able to move enough MESA product to justify being there, to MESA's desire to return to more of a bootique brand and so on (so I've read).
It's funny. You'd think that, working for a shop that is not GC, I'd be thrilled they might go under. I'm not. Back in 2008 a major band instrument shop and internet sales place called Woodwind & Brasswind declared bankruptcy (thought they are still around, they were bought out). Many of he major manufacturers tended to give them longer payment terms than most shops because they bought so much. When they declared bankruptcy, it almost took several MAJOR instrument manufacturers under for putting so much of their sales in one pot. They worked it out with a lot of help from independent dealers like us. If GC is having major issues, these companies better have their ducks in a row.
Flux drive is a nice pedal by the way. LOL
When I bought my first Boogie Mark II you had to go directly to them on the phone, and send them a cashiers check in advance as I recall, I think my first Boogie cost me around $800 or so for the 80 (or it could have been 100) watt short head and a 1-12 open back cab with an EVM 12 L in it (I still have that speaker in another cab) plus another two bills for road cases, Then next one I bought direct also, a 1-12 Mark 4 Combo without a speaker as I put that same speaker in it. That was fifteen hundred as I recall direct. Then I bought a Strategy 400 Power amp (It had 8 huge tubes in it, and was 200 watts a side in stereo) and a Quad Preamp. That was $2,500. I actually blew a EVM 12 L speaker with that one. I had 4 1-12 open back cabs with three hundred watt EVM 12 L's in them. I still have that speaker as well, Electro Voice re coned it free even after the 4 or 5 years I owned it. I bought them all direct from Mesa before I ever saw them in stores.
When I sold the Mark 4, I kept the speaker as it was the very first EVM 12L I ever owned.
