Early test clip. Using the Charvel with Super Distortion here. I think I'll be trying some of my other guitars/pups with it later today and see how things measure up (the Super Dist. pickup usually seems better suited to more Marshally type amps...but it's not bad with the Superdrive by any means).

Crunchy Budda Test / Download

Do you really NEED a Super Distortion with a Budda?  That's the question.

Clip sounds great though.
sounds great - but I'm not sure you're getting a tone that you don't already have here.
Thanks.

I just grabbed my 'workhorse' guitar for these early hours with the amp, I'll definitely be using some others when I get a little more familiar with it. The Super Distortion is fairly hot and I wanted to see how pissy the amp can get (gain was actually at 11:00 for this). Gonna try the 'Air Zone' guitar next. (=

Sheep, that's the very cool thing about this head, it can do both, Marshally type tones and darker stuff. I just went for the easy thing first as I kinda know how to dial this sound in. Having some simple fun with it right now - eventually I'll be digging in depper for some new (to me) tones that I know this amp has.

I admit though, I'm kinda worried about trying to dial in a darker heavy tone...my ears are gonna tell me it's muddy. Another learning curve begins...

I didn't mean to be the amptone nazi there... no need to explain! heh. one of these days, I'll get to hear what you do with a sound like timmons' on "Redemption"... I'll be patient! ;)

+1 for the super distortion pickup - sound great split too.
Sounds great for me too !! Awesome amp !
Sounds great.  Just like mine.   :)

How do you like the clean channel?  It can get pretty crunchy too.

Also, if you want the brighter Marshally tones, something that adds some higher end harmonics works great.  I use the OCD in HP mode some, but the SHO clone a lot.  I really love this amp.  The Tweaker covers more ground for sure, but I LOVE the OD channel on my SD, and the clean channel is great too.
p.s. This does sound more like my Wolfie with the SD, (given your settings) than say my PRS's or my strats.  I think you'll really dig a single coil guitar with this amp as well.

Thanks again, all. *Heads off to find a clip of "Redemption" for reference.* :)

The cleans are very nice, DTR, a little hair to them but honestly, still very sweet sounding and I actually prefer a wee bit of dirt on my cleans anyway. The clean channel on the Budda reminds me of the Ghia only it's better because of the additional bright switch and EQ knobs the Z lacks.

The amp has a lot of gain! Not surprising though, the preamp portion of these was designed by Dave Friedman - he knows gain, lol. Though I mostly bought it as a crunch amp to track rhythms I can easily see using it for some thick, gooey lead tones as well. Tried both my drive pedals with it today, the bb and the Jetter, wanted to try it doing lead tones. Neither pedal floored me but both were effective in their own way. The Jetter sounds especially nice into the clean channel, still nails that faux Dumble sound. It looks like most Budda owners are using the OCD with the Superdrives. If I can find a used one I'll see what all the fuss is about.  ;)

Late to the party - I like it, seems a bit beefier than your usual clips while still having the 80's character.  Nicely chewy.
Listening a bit more, not sure if its just the chords you are playing or change of tone but its more Nuno-ish.  very cool :)
Thanks Paul!! It is definitely more throaty than my other amp (which I'm still figuring out as well, lol). The OP clip is taking the amp more towards the Marshall side of things...but it's not really the 'native' tone for this amp if you will, it took some finagling, had to really tweak the knobs to get it here (the alder Charvel w/Super Distortion is factored in). I hope to toss up something on the other end soon enough, more of what the amp sounds like with all the knobs around noon and a mohogany guitar w/mild pickup. It kinda has a Vox+Marshall+Bogner thing to it when set more neutral.

The chords were supper dumb, open D's, A's and maybe an oddball thing slipped in to throw everyone off, lol. "Nuno-ish" is kinda awesomel-ish though. :)

I forgot to mention I got this thing for a STEAL! It's used but looks new...$700 out da doe.  ;D
These get a lot of "best buy of any boutique amps" comments at TGP.  They are a steal for what they go for.  that said, I paid a bit more than that for my SD 18 and i got a great deal!  Between this and the Ghia, you've stolen two great amps lately!   I thought I was hooked up at GC! How do you get these deals?  Lol... but I haven't bought used there in a while and he did tell me he'd hook me up good on a used guitar I almost bought a while back...
Actually I didn't get this from GC but rather a local 'mom & pop' music store...but yeah, I do get hooked  up at GC sometimes - nice to go running with the manager every so often, lol! Same guy that introduced me to the Jetter Pedal guy actually.

The Budda does everything the Ghia does but the Ghia cannot go where the Budda goes (nowhere near the level of gain) so the Z is gonna be outta here whenever the mood strikes (whenever something I'd like to add surfaces).
