But I ain't motivated to do the install just yet. The HRD needs the amp removed completely to do that job and it is a pain in the keester. I would do the HRD install today but the wifey is working, and I need someone to pull out the AC cord while I am playing a big fat chord on the amp to release some of the electricity stored in the amp just for safety sake. Of course I could do it without that precaution I ain't in a hurry, the Tonespotter sounds great also. (And if I don't like the C-Rex more than the Tonespotter I have to reverse the process). Oh my my.
Have you made the switch yet? I have an Eminence Swamp Thang that I am using. I switched it back from a WGS Classic Lead that Howie had sold me. I was using these heavy hitters when I was using higher wattage amps. I have settled on a little 5 watt tube amp head, so I am looking into getting a low watt speaker, but I'm not sure what I want. I am looking real hard at a Jensen C12 R or maybe a Greenback. I haven't had time to do much research on it. The Swamp Thang sounds good but seems a bit stiff.
I had a V30 at one time which matched up pretty well with the Univalve that I had, so I'm thinking I need to head back that direction. <<<<<<<<<<<< Lower <<<<<< :-/
I am seeing a little bit of differences as I play the thing, and I hear they will get better. So far so good. No great big difference than the Eminence Tonespotter with Weber Beam Blocker in front. I left the beam blocker out of the amp this time just to see what it sounded like without one. It is similar in sound to the Tonespotter/beam blocker except the bass notes are slightly crisper.
I have it on good authority that those C-REX really need to be broken in. My buddy Joe runs a 20Hz sine wave through them for 24-48 hours I think. At first, they sound like fairly normal speakers.

I am sure it will break in, but it will take about 80 hours of moderate volume they say. I have friends on the Fender Forums telling me that anyways. I live in a glorified RV park so I can't crank it till the snow birds leave in April/May. Once that happens I will crank 'er up for a little while. My Eminence Lil Buddy never broke in till I went to Cobb area Ca and spent some time with my niece and her cohort. He used my amp to do a rehearsal and he had it cranked and had some kind of octave box thing going and when I got it home it was as sweet as can be.
By the way I sat on the beam blocker when installing the C-Rex and crunched in the dome on front. I thought it was a goner, but I got it straightened out with a little bit of tweaking. It is in the C-Rex box with the Tonespotter.

I always found a use for the leaves and buds, but now I also found a fantastic use for the stems.
Not tryin to empty your bank account, it is an acquired taste, The Fender chime is seriously mitigated into something so smooth and different it might not suit your taste. But it is sure suiting mine.......

It is definitely an acquired taste, and the C-Rex won't satisfy all tastes, that's for sure. It sounds rather dull at times but it is so smooth without much pick attack, I am still pretty impressed by it. Of course we will have to see how well it works out after it breaks in. I did turn it up a little bit yesterday and the louder it got the nicer it sounded. Lots of nice under and overtones in the notes, and it imitates (not quite) power tube distortion as well with the under/overtones. Very nice.......
