I am madly in love with the pedal you built for me awhile back. It has one strange issue. Once I turn it on it's on. then when I click it off it goes off. Iff I go to click it on again.....sometimes.....it acts like there is a short in a wire. But if I step on it again.....it goes on. It's almost like there is a 3 position click on it. Instead of Off and on.....It's like I have off-on-master OFF to the whole rig.
What do you think the issue is?
If you are clicking it twice and it's only "actuating" (switching) once, that sounds like a switch that is either going bad or has gone bad. Have you checked that it's actually getting switched (clicking) when you press on it? is the nut loose at all? is there any wobble in the switch? Unfortunately that's the most common part to fail in a pedal. I'd send you a switch to replace it, but it's a lot of really tight wiring. I'll have you send it back to me for a replacement if it keeps up. I've got a bunch of switches. Unfortunately there's no real good solution, the stomp switch is a big piece of metal that slides against another piece of metal, inside a plastic box... the taiwanese switches are currently considered the best and i just got a shipment of them. The name brand switches by Carling are ironically considered to be the worst.
There's another possibility, because the buffer is in that pedal-- there could be a short in the myriad wiring options. Do you notice this with the buffer in a certain position, or does the buffer not matter? Does this happen pretty consistently, is it unusual, does it seem to be getting worse?
Of course, if I was a switch and someone your size kept stepping on me, I'd go bad too. ;) :D
It's really consistent. It's always done it. The buffer switch doesn't seem to matter. It took me a while to realize it was the pedal, because it is literally like your playing kick something in and the sound is just gone. Step on the pedal again and you back in business. It's not like it's shorting and going in and out while I play. It just seems to be that switch. There is no play in the switch. It's not loose are anything like that. It's could be a wiring thing. Like I said it's like a 3 position switch in that way that it acts and you have to cycle through all the position to get back around.
That's totally bizarre. If it is actually making a click each time, and 2 of three are doing different switching functions, and one is doing nothing, that switch is behaving totally wrong. send it back to me, 113 English Dr. Santa Cruz, CA, 95065. I'll send you money via paypal to cover USPS priority mail, just wrap it in bubble wrap and stick it in one of their priority envelopes.
You should have the paypal-- send it whenever you get a chance. I'll be out of the country October 9-25 so the sooner the better.
I paypaled you about a week ago-- did you ever get this in the mail? It's gonna be a quick fix for me, but I am out of the country starting 10/9.
