The Watering Hole

Yes, you heard me right.  I said the dreaded S word.  My buddy Jeff (Lt. Core when he was around) told me about falling in love with a "Classic Vibe Squire Tele."  After our initial joking about it being a squire, he insisted it felt great, played great, the guys in the store were saying it was the best deal out there, etc....

So Wednesday, I walk in GC to get my Tweaker, and I see a Classic Vibe Strat.  $349.   (Same price as the Tele).  I pick it up and an immediately impressed by the feel of it.  When  my guy sees me, he comes over with a big smile on his face and says "what do you think?"  I told him about Jeff and the Tele, and said that for a quick check, it felt really nice.  We proceeded to stand there looking at Classic Vibe Strats and Teles for about 30 minutes with him telling me how great they were the whole time.  He said "If I weren't broke, I'd own that Tele right now, and as soon as I get the cash it's mine."    I picked up two of them, and two of the Teles.  Never plugged one in, but he said they sound good as well.   I can vouch for the feel though.  Very nice.  He was so excited to tell me about them.  He said "i've checked out a bunch of the strats and the teles.  They are better than the Mexican ones, which are pretty good.  They are AT LEAST on par with the  American Specials and Road Worns. And feel free to check them out and tell me if you disagree but I think they are on par with the American Standard and Deluxe too."    :o :o

I was in a hurry to get the amp and get back to work.  But I WILL be checking one of these out next time I go.
I've never understood all the fuss about Squire guitars. I bought my son a Squire tele and it is an excellent guitar. Well made, plays well, lovely action and good sounding pickups, and a fraction of the cost of a"real" fender.......although I must admit I did buy myself a "real" fender tele a few weeks ago, but to be honest, I can't tell the difference between them other than mine says Fender and Olivers says Squire  :)
