Well is there any advantage in disabling USB on a windows XP Pro Core 2 duo 2.2 gig with an Asus p5b-vm se mobo DAW?
I read somewhere you can disable the 12 volt power to the USB ports on Win 7 and still use self powered units in the USB Ports is that possible on XP Pro?

Here's the thing- as far as I have ever seen, you can disable "USB Power Management," (and SHOULD) meaning you can prevent the computer from turning USB ports off when they are not in use. Frankly, why the hell that is even a setting I can't figure out. In my time looking into this USB power management causes nothing but problems, and that shit should always be enabled--your computer attempting to dynamically allocate power to USB ports based on whether it thinks they are in use or not is like asking a chimp to drive your car--only possible result is problems. My .02. So the answer to your question (if that is your question) is YES, you should disable "power (management)" of your USB ports, and NO, you shouldn't disable POWER to your USB ports (I don't think you can even do that). You can certainly disable the USB ports entirely, but why?
Also, a little electrical theory goes a long way. You can run 12v of power to your USB port--it won't be used unless something closes the connection. So if nothing needs the power, it's not used. Kind of like--no, exactly like--a wall socket. It's just sitting there when nothing's plugged in and completing a circuit.

I have an image of the Bare OS loaded on to the office computer's second drive when I built it. I have CD's with service packs 2 and 3 ready to load on the OS after re imaging, and then apps and plug ins, all the data and other things like sound card drivers are on the data drives from the old DAW. I think I will be ready to roll right after the video card driver gets installed on the old Bare OS drive once I re-image it. I am liking that development a bunch.....
Tweaking the OS for audio is going to take a few hours, and the apps might take a few more but all in all it seems like a decently light load.
