The Watering Hole

I can't understand a word this guy is saying, but this is one of the more 'colorful' amp reviews I've seen. Watch it all:

Most of the Youtube vids of this amp are 19 yr old kids diming the gain, dropping the tuning & mids, and doing their best to emulate Howie's Metal Zone. This is another vid where I can't understand a word, but at least the dude shows the lighter-to-medium sides of the amp:

AMS has one of these for a 'factory resealed' deal.....$106 per month for 8 months. Thinking about jumping on it.

So these (and a couple more vids) got me curious, I did some research on this 3120 amp. It's basically a Peavey XXX with EL34 tubes and a cosmetic makeover. And also found out the new XXXII is a JSX with a cosmetic makeover.

I've always dug the XXX amps, with the exception of having to tame that 'Hair' knob. The 3120 doesn't have that particular feature, per se, and is easier to smooth out that top end snarl with just the twist of the active 'High' EQ knob.

As these amps have more gain than even I will ever need, I learned from Bob at Eurotubes today that the rythm channel can be tamed down quite a bit (making it better for blues to classic, but still more than enough for 80's crunch), and the lead channel can also be tamed down and made creamier....all done with a lower distortion tube package. I'll let you guess the brand of tubes.... ;)
After watching these, It got me interested in what Peavey had cookin'.  I hadn't checked them out in a while.  I used to have a Classic 30, which is a good amp, and my brother has an old Backstage 30 Solidstate from the 70's.

While the stuff you are looking at is cool, but much more amp than I need, I am interested in the Valveking II Micro Head.

20 watt that changes to lower watt by switching.

I would just like to futz with it to see the technology.  Try the USB recording out.  The speaker defeat.  The variable Class knob.

It has a lot of interesting features.
