Snagged me one of these guys a few weeks back. Spent some time last night going through the presets. Sounds good. Pretty neat. Lotsa amps and effects in there. Not too long ago it cost lots(over 5 bills) and now you can get them for 99 bucks.
You can use this thing as a 1 in 2 out sound card though I haven't tried that. The other way to use it is how I'm using it. Plug your instrument into the Toneport DI then route the DIed output to an input on your soundcard and route the effected signal to your monitors or to another input on your soundcard. You use the GearBox app to dial in your sound.
It comes with plugins you can use in your DAW. So you record your dry non effected signal then play it back through a plugin(the Gearbox and plugin settings are independent.) While recording or playing along there's no need to monitor your input signal through your DAW. That's because you're monitoring through the Gearbox app and the Toneport. This gives you low latency monitoring which allows you to give your DAW higher latency settings which give you better CPU performance.
If you only use the plugins and not the Gearbox app the Toneport still has to be connected to the computer via USB as the thing acts like a dongle for the plugins.
I like it. I can tell it'll be a good thing to have around.
BTW I haven't even listened to half the presets. Many to check out still.
Someone stick this in the Gear section 'kay, please, thanks.
