This thing sounds pretty killer!

And a bit more detailed sample, also mixing in some common boost pedals and different tubes...

Never heard of Jet City before, guess it's Soldano's answear to the Chinese stuff but damn, these sound good to me and when you consider the price ($700ish for the 100w head - and of course less for the 50 and 20 watt variations), major bang for buck.
Hearing lots of good things at TGP about this series.  The 20 watter is only $300ish!

I liked the heck out of that amp. Every sound he got out of it was great. Even for the stuff I do, which is clean to overdrive but not into ultra high gain territory is in that amp.
really nice sound
I have serious G.A.S. for that amp.  Can't find shit on the 50 watt which is more what I am interested in.

Same here. Looks like the 50w was just a little slower trickling into stores but it's out there now. A smaller local store actually has 2 JCA100's and one JCA50 in stock right now...I'm hoping to check them out this coming weekend. The 20w head is el84 based unlike the 50/100 (6L6).
The 20 watt is ok.  I'm el84 based now and do not wish to be anymore.  I can't find a bad clip with the 100....but that's more amp than I need.  50 would be perfect.

Damn, even the 20watt/el84 rascal sounds great. I was getting discouraged, couldn't find a great clip of it, only a bunch of "heh, its ok, but its not the 50/100, they're sounding much better" - well, not here, the mic'd up 20 with a boost is screaming mad, lol.

GAS, I'm gonna end up ripping one soon...

Hasn't your cat suffered enough???  ;) ;D
The only bummer for me is that it doesn't have an fx loop...
KrankZilla — Aug 10, 2010The only bummer for me is that it doesn't have an fx loop...

damn it.......I need an effects loop.  Damn you.  Damn you to hell.  You've ruined my happy zone.
The 50 has an effects loop!! so....YEAH  back in tehhappy zone.
you don't need 50 watts.  Nobody near you is safe when you have over 20!

*BLAST*  ;D

Just zipped down to the Atlanta GC (always an adventure) on my lunch break. Have a JCA20 head in the backseat.  ;)

Played it for only a few seconds, definitely like the gainy stuff over the Egnater (Rebel/Tweaker), it's more gnarly sounding, more of an upper mid crunch than a lower mid, guess owning the Splawn has brainwashed me to that type of voicing, more jcm800ish.

I don't mind the missing loop, a pedal or two up front will do for me.

Dangit...  >:(

First the Tweaker, now this. I'm so going to end up broke.  :-/
Don't worry, people tell me money is overrated anyway (and I'm broke already).  ;) ;D

Friggin' little amp RAWKS!!

I kept the Tweaker, still have nearly a month to check it out and decide whether or not to return it. The gain is really crunchy, far more saturated than I could get outta the Egnater and again, it's voiced different, more pleasing IMO (for my tastes), has more chew than chunk. The cleans are not quite as nice as the Tweaker but still really good. Thing is, I personally only needed "better than Quick Rod cleans" and BOTH do that, lol (an easy task). I just can't get the Tweaker to 'solo/sing' levels without a significant boost via a pedal. The JC however is already there with the gain cranked and no boost....boosting would actually make me reduce the gain.

It's also not nearly as loud as the Tweaker, go figure, but with the main volume at 6 (seems to be the point where the distortion is 100% fizz/buzz free) and the gain cranked full, the pictures on the wall don't even jiggle, it's really a decent, jam sound level, something like "guitar lessons" level I'd say. Actually, come to think on it, this is the lowest volume sounding amp (when cranked) I've owned - which just what I wanted. If I haven't mentioned it, the gain is yummy, hot rodded Marshall flavor. I will bore you with clips asap.

Good Luck with it amigo. Reads like you really like it.
yer killin' me!   ;)

I wouldn't get rid of the Tweaker because the cleans are too good and there are a wide variety of them.  But... how does this compare to the Rebel?  That is the one I've been using for gain more lately.  (Although, a couple styles of OD pedals can push the Tweaker about anywhere you want to go... but then again, you all knew I'd say that, right?  LOL)

Howie, you'd love this thing, seemingly a modders dream, not that it needs any IMO. I think most of them can be viewed as "enhancements" anyway. I'm already convinced it's a keeper after one days spinning - never was so sure with the Tweaker. As far as comparing to the Rebel 30, I think the 30 was better in the overdrive dept compared to the Tweaker but both still pale in that area compared to the JC, no contest. The JCA is more organic, more hollow/open, has more demension and teeth.

Here's a modders thread at shit central. Only thing I was concered with was tracking down a 'recomended tube brand' and biasing vid, found this. Stock sounds fine to me but the amp was so cheap, why not upgrade a notch if possible with a simple tube swap (comes with elcheapo Chinese no names) and bias...the JC rep himself posted they ship 'em out a little on the cold side.

The video of the "Real Owner" (snd vid) sounds really impressive towards the end, the soloing at 4:20.

Damn, "Paul from guitar world"  >:(  That dude just seems to make everything he reviews sound bad...plus I find his manner really really annoying...a complete dick really !  This dick > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdI7GuVOXCU&feature=player_embedded#!

and on the subject of dicks, here's another one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwebyR8TDck&feature=related

Dicks notwithstanding, this is a very good amp.

I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these amps myself. Love it.
Too bad the guy in the second video didn't know that he was using a camera and not just a mic - at least point it at the guitar neck not your pants! LOL!  ;)

You're right, I do need something for cleans...but I did get rid of the Tweaker anyway, AND the JCA20 - in one move. I figured as long as I was sitting on over 700 in GC cred for 30 days I may as well at least try what I was gassing for a year ago....the Renegade, I mean the cleans are stellar and there is far more gain on tap in channel 2 then all the others (JCA20, Rebel, Tweaker) so why not? It was a no brainer really after playing it, shoulda just went for it in the first place. Being an owner of most of their stuff (ok, briefly ;D) I can say this is Egnaters finest amp thus far (short of his custom stuff). After a couple of days I'm finding the gain is richer and not as dark as the Rebel series (plus there's gobs of it - THIS IS a high gain amp, cannot say that of the others), there's much more headroom compared to the little heads for the cleans, it's not noisy on either channel, it takes pedals really well, and shit, the EL34 side even came stock with Rubys! No weird noises or quirks either. A well crafted amp.

I'm hijacking my own thread but I'm still on topic.  :P

Renegade Clean Sample / Download
Oh God, those cleans.  :o I really need a good pedal-friendly amp for church. Their old JMP head is awesome but I don't think it will last much longer. I was looking at the Mesa Stiletto series amps but they're sooo expensive. The Tweaker and Rebell sound marvelous but don't have enough watts for me. Guess I should look into the Renegade.
Actually, I was drooling for a Renegade from the day it was announced.  I just have NO need for that many watts.  I guess I could leave it in the 18 watt mode...   ;)

Don't blame ya, I think several of us here were more or less jonesing for the Renegade after first reading the specs...

It's not an overly loud amp! Really. The above clip was done on the 18watt mode!
The cleans were stellar on that clip amigo. Now I gotta try one out myself. What speakers were you playing it through.

Thanks man! Hope you can check one out. I'm sure you'll like it. Great thing is, this is 100% stock, straight out of the box - nothing in the effects loop, no pedals, stock tubes, nada. I even first dug out my handy multimeter to bias it up properly and whaddya know, it was near spot on to begin with.

The path for the clip was: Guitar (PAF Pro neck pup until the ugly/obvious click down to position 4 @ 0:29) > Renegade > 2x12 cab w/Eminence "Small Block" (basically a G12M Heritage @ 55w) and Classic Lead 80...I only mic the Eminence and use an sm57 and e906 > Profire 610 Pre > Cubase 5. Verb was via vst in Cubase (Lexicon PCM Native).

I really liked the verb sound I have the lexicon verb, but never use it. My go to verb is the Waves IR-1 with the extended impulses, I use the Rhyman row R or something. I could never get the Lex to decay like I like it. However the one setting you used was very nice indeed. Wat was it?

Thanks. Without opening Cubase and checking all the little parameters...I know for sure it's a room verb I tweaked. The preset I started with is called "parquet floor."

Thanks I am about to start a new project, and will look into that setting.

No problem. For what it's worth, this eve I'll pull it up and post the exact settings just to give ya a better starting point. I love that plugin. Found several others I really like in there as well, but man, that Parquet floor jumped out at me the first time I sampled it.

Thanks.

Here ya go:

Lexicon PCM Native vst...LexRoom, Category = Small & Medium Halls, Preset = Parquet Hall, Early Predelay 15.00 ms, Reverb Time 1.9375 sec, Rev Out Freq 5750Hz, Diffusion 30%, Bass xov 1000Hz, Bass RT 1.50x, Reverb Predelay 48.00 ms, RT HiCut 5500Hz, Mix 30%. Whew! How do the amps do all that with a single "Reverb" knob? ;)

Thanks, copied and about to be printed for transport to the DAW which is not networked.
