Look what I just ordered.  The little brother to your amp.

I had heard weeks ago that Guitar Center blew these out for $149 and wished I had gotten one. I have a new gig where I play electric guitar at pretty low volume (with un-amplified acoustic guitars) so I wanted a good little combo.   Started watching them on ebay and see they still routinely go for more.  Many times, over $200.  Then I found that Willcutt Guitar Shoppe had them for $138.99 with free shipping.  I jumped.  BTW, they are the biggest PRS dealer in the country so I'm also talking to them about a PRS 305.  ;)

Great buy... can't believe it's that cheap.  There's a difference in tone with these because I believe it's single-ended, one 6v6?  Also that 8" speaker did not cut it for me but run it through a 12" and you should have something.  BTW, this is mine now...

Nice Charger!!

Howie, I would love to make a trip to Wilcutt's.  Their website makes me drool enough.  lol ;D

Charger, yeah I'm sure it won't have the guts yours has.  I just wanted something that would be versatile and sound good at moderate volumes.

Yours is looking great!

Chris, I think Amy and I might be going down there soon.  Want to meet us there? Maybe we can both take a new PRS home.  ;)
Howie, you are killing me.  Man, I wish I had the cash to take something home with me from there.   I would be hard to go there and NOT go home with something.  Woof.  ;D

Oh, if I go there, I'll be coming home with one!   ;)  That's the cool thing about that place.  I wanted to check out a 305 and even my "Premier" store GC has only one of them and it's tobacco sunburst.  A) I don't like tobacco sunburst and B) I already have two guitars that are that color!  I call them when I bought the little Vibro Champ, and they have 7 different colors of 305 in stock!  Yeehaa!
I know.  They have almost every single guitar they have in stock viewable on their website.  Scary.  LOL

I'd go their and put something on the CC.  That would be VERY bad...
yeah, the stuff they have could do some damage to the CC.  I better take the checkbook instead.
Yeah, it's not like picking up an extra 6-pack of Bud.  LOL ;D
Don't laugh boys.  This little things sounds pretty good!  Several of the settings are nice but the Champ (voice 1) is my favorite for now.  I put the gain on 5-6 and the volume on 5-6, little verb...  really sounds good.  Not very loud, which is perfect for the gig I bought it for.  In fact, for that gig I can't turn it up to 5.  It really sounds better at 5 than 3, (where I use it for that gig).  At home with gain and volume on 6 is sounds really nice and doesn't even bother the wife!  I think for $139 shipped, this thing is a steal practice and playing IF you don't need much volume and use clean tones.  Interesting in that, if I get my info correctly, the front end is SS!  Yes, it has a 12ax7, but I hear that is only the phase inverter and that the pre-amp section is all solid state.

I know these were highly rated at $250 original price.  For $139 a steal.  I'd pay this price for it even if it only have Voice 1.

now I'm just waiting for Charger and his boy to open up the big brother and come up with some mods to turn it into a fire breather!   ;)

Some people have modded it to basically remove the front end (it's not solid state, it's actually digital modelling) and replace it with a standard preamp tube section.  I am not going to do this because I like it for what it is... a modelling amp for practice and recording.  Also, everything else is in the digital section too, the EQ section, the fx, etc.  I think the first 8 sounds on this thing are all pretty stellar and don't see a need to change them.  A lot of people talk about changing out the 12AX7 and how it magically changes the tone, but those people are on crack... it's a phase splitter and doesn't affect the tone.  As far as mods go, I think the one I did is the best thing you can do... give it a 12" speaker... preferably something with some weed in it!
I was going to ask before and forgot.   What speaker do you have in yours now?

Yeah, I'm not going to mod this thing.  It sounds really good with NO effort, just not very loud.  I have to admit, it sounds so good it has me wondering about replacing it with one like yours...

That Champ setting really is a VERY NICE "small amp" clean tone.  I've played several old ones at pawn shops that didn't sound as good as this thing does.  I'm sure they needed going over, but, just saying.

With all the love at TGP for the Super like yours, I wish I'd seen GC blowing them out for $199 and I'd have bought one.  I followed some on ebay since they and all sold for over $200.   :(
I've got the Weber Silver Bell, 50 watts, with a hemp cone in it.  Sounds stellar.  I've played it through all the 12s in the studio that were 8 ohm (EV, a couple of different Celestions) but I think the sound of the Weber is most killer with this.

The reason you and I love the channel 1 tone is the compression... that is one compressed tone! When you get tired of the compression, try channel 2, that's the one that I use for almost everything... at low gain it's a lot like channel 1 but with less compression, at maxed gain it's got enough breakup to do all kinds of stuff.

Also, remember that's a 6-watt tube amp... give it a 12" speaker with modern efficiency and it will be very loud.  Our Epiphone Valve Jr. at 5 watts can keep up with the full live setup of drums, bass, guitars, and keyboards with the volume below noon...
yeah, at 5/5 it sounds cranked up and fat, but it's not loud.  I love that!

*with an inefficient 8" speaker.  Give it a 12" with modern efficiency and it will be very loud.
Yeah it sits in a stack with 5 cabs. I Ned to try it with one.
