Need a backup?  This is pretty cheap for this.

Thanks for the heads up Howie, I went for it immediately
You got a good memory Howie. Once I saw that deal I went for it immediately, That is one of the smoothest all tube sounding overdrive pedals I have ever owned. Now I will have 2 Duncan Twin Tube Classics and 2 Nady TD1 distortion pedals. One of each goes into my Hot Rod Deluxe road case, and the originals stay in my pedal board in the la Casa, never to be moved I guess. Plus my DAW is in my shed (climate controlled) so I can hook the pedals up to my Tonelab Table Top for recording overdrive sounds without all the trouble of unhooking/unplugging my pedal board and plugging it all back in.
yeah, I'm on my way to pick up a pedal I bought on Craigs List now, or I'd have snatched one of these up myself.  Easily sell for more than that used if I didn't like it, and I'm pretty sure I would!
What did ya snag Howie?
Fulltone MDV-2  :)
Well I got a cancellation notice from Musicians Friend, they simply cancelled the Twin Tube with no explanation. Oh well I did not need it anyways.
that stinks.  I bet they sold out.  Always wanted to try that pedal.  I would have  bought one YEARS ago if they had 12ax7's and socketed tubes.  Wonder if they are replacing this model with something like that...

They had it in my account as a back ordered item at the full $229 price expected in on November 23rd, fortunately I was able to then cancel that, Tricky on their part but I caught 'em and cancelled it. Glad I checked in to my account or they would have shipped it charged my credit card $229 and then I would have had to go through the refund process. Fuck them anyways I will use GC for demo purposes, and buy from American Musical Supply or zZounds dot com or one of the other on line stores.
The pedal is very nice but I would like to find something a lot smoother in the bottom end. I am thinking Fulltone something. Any suggestions for an overdrive (not Fuzztone) that has the smoothest (less grainy) overdrive tube simulated sound?
Something mosfet...
From what you are saying, DBM, you want a Fulldrive.  The Fulldrive is smoother than the Plimsoul.  Ironically, the Mosfet setting on it is the most aggressive, least smooth option on it.

Mosfets generally clip in a more tube-like manner, but that doesn't necessarily mean they sound smoother.  That depends on several other things in the circuit.  I need to get my BYOC OD2 built.  I got the "mosfet" option on it.  I can let you know if it's something you'd be interested in.  I'm sure it's a great pedal.  I've been side-tracked beyond belief this past year... and other than Daphne's wedding, all BAD stuff.

Smooth is relative.  A big muff can be really smooth--with the huge high rolloff.  The OD2 is an interesting project, I'd like to buy one but the BYOC stuff is kinda pricey.  But that one does have a crapload of switches which I love.  It's basically a tubescreamer though.  I don't think of smooth necessarily when I think of tubescreamers, they cut so much bottom.

My favorite "tubescreamer" platform pedal is, of course, my Sobbat Drivebreaker I... A tubescreamer with way more gain, and bass and treble knobs.

Honestly, I love Germanium right now.  I love the tone of my Germanium 4, that is the best pedal I've ever bought, and I love the sound of the EH Germanium OD in all the samples I've seen.  A tubescreamer with germanium diodes doesn't always sound great, but it can...
I have  tube screamer clone, a Boss Blues Driver. Nice pedal but not so useful for my taste. I do use it to break down the pick noises/peaks on clean sounds by setting the drive on it to just start the tiniest little bit of break up. It works well for that. But full up it sounds just mediocre for my purpose. I think I had a true tube screamer way back in the late 60's or early to mid 70's, I did not think that much of it then, I think I just gave it away because I never used it.

There is a guy that works on the Rosie O'Donnell show, his guitar work sounds just like what I would like from my gear. I have been trying to find out what equipment he uses, probably a big buck amp and pedal board but I can't find any info on it. Jay Leno's Band guitar player when he was on earlier a few years back had the same kind of tone as well. Real nice smooth overdrive without being too grainy. I guess I gotta get down to GC and demo some pedals.

My tube pedals work just fine as well, just looking for something a tad bit smoother.
Fulltone FUlldrive II is what you're looking for DBM.

I have one and it's sooooooooo flexable and easy to use.  Tons of tones and everything from perfectly loud clean with no dirt to a smooth overdrive.  I leave the MOSFET on always and I would NOT say that it's edgy.  I'd say even with MOSFET on that it is very smooth.  IF you get gain crazy sure I guess it could kinda be agressive, but you'd have to be gained up PLUS have the boost on and past 3 o'clock to get there.

I also run mine at 18 volts instead of 9.  To me it opens the pedal up and allows it to be more expressive.

I have to agree with charger that SMOOTH is relavent.  I have a Big Muff Pi Tonewicker that can be very SMOOTH and then be a Wooly Mammoth if I need that also.  Gosh I need to record more stuff.  It's been too long.
Thanks FB....
