Hey Jon, I've just brought a pair of the new Seymour Duncan Whole Lotta Humbuckers http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/humbucker/vintage-output/whole_lotta_hum/
to put into my Agile LP. I'm thinking about going the whole hog and putting in a Jimmy Page wiring as well. I know you put this into your Epi LP. What do you think of it, do you use the options much?
Thanks
Yes, I use all the options a lot.   You can get some great sounds for the many combinations that you put the pickups into.   I wouldn't want any humbucker guitar without this to be honest.   A word of caution, if you are not 100% sure of what you are doing with this get someone to do it who is .    I was going to wire this up myself but it is like spaghetti so in the end I got a pro guitar tech to do it.  By the way your pickups do need to have 4 leads coming out of each them of course to do this. Edit:  I just checked and the pickups in your link DO have 4 leads for each pickup so you are good to go with the correct wiring loom. Buy a wiring loom ready made.....it will save you lots of headaches.
BTW, there's a flaw in the wiring of the Jimmy Page LP and in a lot of the published specs. My friend who's both an electrical engineer and a Jimmy Page freak believes that JP intentionally miswired this when he gave it to Gibson to copy, so no one could get his sound... whether that's true or not, there is a mistake in most of the published versions that's pretty critical.  If you're interested in I can dig up my schem...

Actually, none of the wiring looms are the correct Jimmy Page wiring at all.  He only ever had an out of phase push-pull fitted.  It was only much later in the early 80's that he installed push/pull on everything but not on his original les paul.

I wouldn't worry about whether it's right or not though. I have so many tonal options on one guitar it really does the job well.

Actually, his #2 LP had push-pulls on all the pots.  A lot of people try to approximate that wiring, and get it wrong--that's the one I've got a schem for that actually does useful things in all positions.  Splitting coils, series/parallel, out of phase.

Later he settled on one push-pull for out of phase wiring.

With my setup I can get something like 21 different sounds by combining the different out of phase and coil splitting etc.  One of my favourite sounds is putting both pickups in series to make one massive humbucker.  This has a really thick full, big sound.   Mostly I use a combination of coil splitting and out of phase. Doesn't really matter if it's right or not as long as it sounds good and you enjoy it.
If you've got 21 combinations, you've got it wired right. I'd be interested to see your wiring, do you have a link to the schematic or something?
I was actually thinking about buying one of the harnesses off of the internet.

I will see if I can find it, need to hunt for the receipt to see where I bought it.

edit:  Can't find the receipt for the wiring loom and can't remember where I bought it other than it was somewhere in the states.

I got this guy to install the loom and do a setup on the guitar too.  He also makes some lovely guitars. About 20 minute drive from where I live.

I've just ordered this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/161157618900?ssPageName=STRK:null:IT, along with these,http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221334760723?ssPageName=STRK:null:IT I also took the option of the mullard cap, ( I put mullard valves in my Rivera).  I will have them installed by a luthier, a guy named Dave Dobson, who refretted my AS200, and modded my telecaster and strat. The guy who makes the harness,  makes them on demand, so they'll take a couple of weeks to get to me.
When I ordered my pups, I asked about Zebra pups, I always liked the look of them. The seller told me that that would be a custom order,  and would take a couple of weeks, but I have gone down that path anyway.
I'm really excited about this. The Agile has turned out to be a really good, playable guitar. I feel that these mods will make it a truly great player.

Looks good. One thing though, did you check the length of the shafts of the pots for your guitar ?   Gibsons require long shafts but other brands of les pauls use shorter shafts (not as much wood to go through (my epiphone uses shorter shafts)).
Ummm... Is that really $130 for $40 worth of parts? holy crap. I'm in the wrong business.
The long standing "standard" for parts cost to retail price is 25%.  Of course this varies widely by product, but in the electronics field, that is the norm.  I am sure that you are also well aware that with many products over half of the retail price is used up in shipping costs and dealer/ distributor profits, etc.

I'm not paying him for the parts, I'm paying him to put it together and do a better job than I would. I dont know how long it takes to do the job, but $40 for parts, $90 to put it together, and ship it to me seems reasonable for something I don't have the co fidence to do.

Yep, that's the way I look at it too.  It's a horrible fiddly wiring job to this right, and for me I would much rather pay someone else to do it than dick around with it for hours on end.

You won't regret this....gives your guitar a ton of tones.
