Jo spotted a Yamaha Clavinova on something called Freecycle (a bit like Ebay but everything is free :)). It was discribed as non-working but in good condition. As Becky is learning Piano we thought that it would be a good thing so we contacted the people and grabbed it. This was Tuesday and I couldn't collect until today but in the meantime I've contacted my old bass player who's business is repairing keyboards and the like to be told that it's more than likely to be the main board that's failed and they are no longer available  :(. For him to check it over and repair any defects could cost £400-500 ($600-750) plus parts.

Suffice to say I got it home about 2PM today, whipped the cover off and had a quick look inside. One of the capacitors on the main board was blown and another was showing signs of being leaky. A quick route around some of the old A/C boards I had lying around revealed that I had the right caps and that they were good.  :)

By 3.30PM the main board was back in having been cleaned up and the Clavinova lives :) :) :).

Not bad for three fifths of fuck all.
Holy shit that's cool.

Awesome that you have the electronic knowledge to be able to resurrect it, too.

Schweeeeeet!!!
Thanks guy's.

It's a CVP87A from about '93-'94. Book value seems to be about £500-£800 depending on where you look.

Gonna keep it for a while and if Becky starts to use this more than the upright piano she's been using so far, we'll sell the upright (£400-£500). If not.....The Clavinova will be on Ebay.

The plan is to sell the Mesa and get something like a Cornford Hellcat instead. I may lose the Fender and get an old Ibanez Artist or maybe a newer SV Prestige as well but I feel it's time to get my shit together either way and start doing something soon.

Zoom 9050 anyone??
Sweet deal Andy!
Free is best, you got the best.
