Well my oldest son sent me an I-Pad, and he included an I-Rig for direct recording, and a gift card to purchase some recording software for the I-Pad.
Nice son. Enjoy the new tool. :)
Nice!
I've installed Apple's Garageband and ikMultimedia's Fender. Both are good toys ! ;)
I was never interested in I-Pads. I can do a lot more on my laptop, and do it quicker. I am going to send the kiddo the I-Pad back and all the fixins and stick with my old DAW, my office computer, and my laptop. I never liked touch screen devices, and I still don't like them. I don't care what else it can do, if my laptop or desktop computers can't do it, I don't need it done.
I played with it a little bit and I already know it ain't for me.
You've got to give it some time Dave! IPad's are so cool, you just wear one for awhile and say "Arrr!" and people think you're a pirate! ;D
I'm not keen on touch-screen devices much either. I was taught to type correctly using a manual typewriter when I was at school, so basically I can type as fast as a copy typist, but of course that only works on a real keyboard, one that has a definite resistance/pressure action to it. I use my iphone of course, but that's ok as I use it only for getting my emails when I'm on the road. I think I would probably use an ipad for it's gimmick appeal when sitting on the sofa etc but not for anything else...I like my keyboard !
They've changed my view of sitting on the can....I no longer read, play the guitar, etc, now I play me some games with my iPod Touch, lol.
They really are more handy then you FIRST think, dbm....waiting room type stuff especially is no longer a bore, from the haircut place to the doc's office, etc....with an ipod/pad (and the like), that wait no longer feels like a total waste because you can goof off with something much more entertaining than a magazine.
Well, my sister in law is down from Northern Cali, and she showed me that I was pushing too hard on the screen. Once I got that message, and learned to touch lightly, it works a lot better. I still like a hardware key set, but I will stick with the I-Pad for it's uses like when the wifey is on the laptop.
Try it out for a couple weeks. If you dont like it, I'll build you a killer custom OD pedal and trade you for it. ;D
Plus, its not nice to return a gift that someone put some thought into.
Geno is sending me a keyboard/dock for the I-Pad. That will make things easier by far. I am still not that impressed with it, although for some things it is handy. (like when the wifey is on the laptop, and I need to get some net time in.
or getting in two hours of surfing after you go to bed, on something the size of a book. I've got some apps now and it is a very cool device.
The kiddo also sent me a fifty buck gift card so I can get some little apps for it. Waiting for the keyboard before I set up my I-tunes/or apps store account.
That was very nice of your son.
There are a lot of "little" (AKA useless) apps out there but there are quite a few heavy hitters for musicians. I have a few for my iTouch that would probably cost $50 to $100 or more for a PC version but are only like $1 to $15. Heck, Tiger Woods PGA costs around $50 for the PS3 and I got it for 99 cents. Somewhat comparable too.
iTunes sux for searching musician's tools as they cram all music apps together, like radio station finders and Taylor Swift photos. Check out the KRV Audio Mobile forum and others for apps geared toward music creators. My favorite site right now is iDesignSound. They keep up with all of the new apps and price reductions and what have you.
Good luck an have fun.
