I know I caught a few folks scratching their heads in my redline post regarding the JSX versus the Tube Vypyr. Understandably so.
I found some clips from a guy who is apparently into 'all things Peavey'. One is a true JSX, and one is the JSX model from a Vypyr Tube 60. Note that I myself am adding the Redline pedal to 'thicken up' my Vypyr's tone. These two clips are straight up from the amps, from the same dude:

the "crowd" on this board is... 10 people?
pissing contest about best gear... fancy gear... I'm not seeing that. try reading gearslutz or tGP for a while... those are the crowds you're talking about.
and the "I play gigs" thing. get someone to take a short iPhone video of it, post that and you will get the comments about your playing and showmanship that you want. as it is, I can only comment on M. Arp's playing and showmanship (quite the pissing contest of fancy guitars on his back wall there, I must say... but nice tunes!)
anyway, you're projecting your (unjustified) feelings of inferiority onto us (and therefore, me, since you were not specific) - I assure you that you are mistaken in this. in no way do I consider you or your material possessions somehow inferior. I might be persuaded that your method of garnering attention on an internet forum is somewhat inferior... but so what? heh.
in truth, this tone is uninteresting to me for reasons that have nothing to do with how much it costs to produce. I would prefer listening to an electric guitar direct, to be honest. I am totally burned out on the satriani thing after spending hours and hours (years) studying it (from various sources). that doesn't make it bad in my book, just, presently, boring. like all things, it will come around again and I will re-dig it - but for now, I can't get interested in it. (except for the outside riff he played in the second video... that was pretty killer!)
btw, this is my practice amp:
and this is my effects loop:
Blues Junior, Plugins and MiM Strat... No pictures needed... ;)
Modified. Wild Turkey really got to me last night. My aplologies to all....
but... now I look like an idiot!! ;D ;D
still, get some gig video up - I'd love to see that! :)
Johnny, I'm not sure what this is all about, but the only reason I didn't reply or watch the videos is that I just don't like that Peavey sound. Nothing to do with the cheap amp vs expensive amp thing... I have just never been able to get into the 5150/6505/jsx/xxx sound. It doesn't work for me. And I say this as someone who's got a Peavey ValveKing in the studio, which we are finally starting to like after four speaker swaps.
And I'm pretty much guaranteed to win any "my gear is cheaper than yours" argument... we've got an Epiphone Electra harp amp ($99), a Valve Jr ($99), and two amps that each cost under $100 built from Hammond parts we bought on ebay. More than half of my pedals I built for around $30-50 each. In the studio, the most expensive amp is probably the Tweaker, followed by the ValveKing (though the Sovtek is probably worth the most at this point).
Charger....nothing more than me making a ridiculously stupid comment while under the influence of WAY too much alcohol.
And I give props to Ironsheep for keeping things cool. Thank you sir :)
As I have met several on this board, and respect the knowledge all of you have, I felt I needed to apologize and face up to my comment.
And I really don't want Fenderbender Mad at me. At 1/3 his size, that would not be good ;)
Johnny, don't know what fun I missed out on, but this much I can assure you. FB could NEVER catch you! ;)
