Just got a VHT Special 6 combo. Just got here today. I'll check it out and let you know how it is. Hopefully I'll get some time with it today.
Looks cool, comes in a 1-12 combo amp too which is the only one I looked at. Let us know how you like it, and good luck with it.
Nice. Congrats. VHT makes good stuff, sampled one of their 4x12 cabs recently, nearly bought it.
initial impression, honeymoon stage, only tried it with one guitar, etc. standard disclaimer on new gear....
Wow, I love this thing! Best $130 I ever spent! It's only a couple months old and like new.
I started a thread at TGP a few days ago on finding a replacement speaker. I'm hearing constant RAVES on the different Warehouse speakers and wanted to try one of their 10s. While nobody specifically addressed the Warehouse 10's I got multiple replies that people tried Emi's and Celestions and Webers and most went back to the stock speaker. I know why! This thing has VERY good clean tones with the stock speaker.
Last night I got to try it out only with an 89 Jap Eric Clapton Strat. The cleans were VERY good. The Barb EQ makes a bunch of different versions of them but for now I'll try to stick to the amp. (But this pedal is made for amps like this with limited tone controls, and it truly revoices the amp into Tweed, Blackface Twin and Marshall voicings. A GREAT pedal with amps like this! ) The amp and Barber Tone Press alone were great! The low power mode is very nice and even cranked it was bedroom volume. Throw a few pedals at it and it will do anything you need. More to follow, but I wanted a small low watt combo with at least good cleans to build on, and this thing is EXACTLY what I wanted. Cheap, very good tone. People say it's in the Champ vein and that doesn't surprise me because I've loved the few good Champs I heard, but this has a bit more muscle (probably the 10" speaker). Also I didn't even try it with other cabs because I wanted it to stand on it's own, but I just have to try this with the Red Fang Alnico.
So far, two thumbs up for a cheap, good sounding all tube combo. So impressed, I actually might go check out the Ultra, which has two channels, more gain, and a loop.
I've been very happy with my VHT gear (Valvulator GP3 preamp & 2/50/2 power amp) which is why they're some of the few items I still have (my only power amp and the only other pre's are my Rocktron Rock Man with NOS Mullards and Ironsheep MOJO, and a Mesa Boogie Rectifier Recording Preamp).
If/when I get more guitar preamps or power amps, it will probably be some low wattage type - I sold ALL my attenuators. :)
