The Watering Hole

Why do I do these things to myself?

So I am seriously considering dropping a bit of coin on some Line 6 gear...

I've been Line 6 free (Aside from an Echo Park pedal) for a number of years...

But, I think it's time to give them another go.

I've played through the Pod HD 500, and it's by far the best sounding Pod yet. Not saying much there really, but it's pretty good. And I've played through the DT-25 recently and was really blown away at how good that little amp sounds all by itself. I have not, on the other hand, played a DT-25 being driven by the HD500 through L6-Link.

So... For my b-day the wife has demanded I get some new guitar playin gear, and I think I'm gonna get the DT-25 + HD500...

The videos of the combination sound pretty good to my ears.

Anyone out there actually played either of the DT amps with an HD500? Saw something about Dar having a DT50 with an HD500, but that was a while back.

I know I'll probably smack myself in a month for jumping on the Line 6 bandwagon yet again, but seriously, the DT25 sounded great. So much better than the old Vetta... Guess that partnership with Mr Bogner is paying dividends. Everything the Vetta was missing, the DT25 was dripping with in spades.
Dave,

Here is what I've heard.  Every single person at TGP who has played an HD500 with a DT25 or DT 50 says the following.  Both are very good or great, but the sum of the parts is easily better than either on their own.  Dar confirms this as he has the HD500 and the DT50.  Everyone says that together they sound great.  Many people bought one or the other with no intent of buying the other one, and after hearing them sold a boutiquey amp to fund the DT or HD.

I have read tons of remarks at The Gear Page, and this is almost universal opinion.  Only a very few have tried the pair and not been very impressed.

I have to admit, I've considered it for months now.  I really want to hear them demo'd together, as I've had an HD500 for a couple years.  If someone could just give me a demo that matched the experience I hear over and over at The Gear Page, I'd dump a couple amps and buy the DT25 head right away.  In fact, I was actively seeking that before Derek put up his demo of the 5150 III and got me all sidetracked again.   :)

I'm with you on one count though... I would be afraid of dumping something as nice as the SD18, thinking I could cover it and so much more with the DT, then later seeing the value drop, the digital part of the amp fail or something similar, and wondering "WHAT THE HECK DID I DO?"
Heh, I swore I would never go back to digital  ::)
Long story...I wanted to experiment with alt tunings, but didn't want have to have to keep changing tunings, (I'm lazy and strings break like nothing else), I ended up with a variax JTV69, (which by itself without the modeling is pretty damn good). My wah pedal gave up on me, so did my analog memory man, so for the less than the price of those two pedals I was able to pickup a new HD500.
I use the HD500 as an effects pedal, four cable method into the front of my amp and effects loop. The HD500 works well like this, and I have to admit it's easier pressing one switch to change three pedals than having to press three.
I'm doing the same as you Cinvala expect that I'm running into a KPA ... my version of a "Dream Rig"!   ;D

Cheers,

As I look back on my recordings with the PodXT I am very impressed with the tones of the XT in several of my efforts. I am sure I could tweak any Pod upgrade from the XT to be as good or better than the XT was. Although I do prefer the old analog tube sound, I would consider a thing like the HD if I was playing professionally or recording professionally.

As for now, with my age related memory issues, I am more than satisfied if I can remember which key I am playing in. ;D
