Yeah, the Mark V combo we got is coming home. I came into the store yesterday while it was closed and REALLY put it through it's paces yesterday. After doing that, I knew it had to come home this evening. So I'm trading a couple things (my Genz Benz Black Pearl 212 and Schechter LoomisFR) and adding some cash.
This amp crunches very well, something my Roadster doesn't necessarily do great.
So all you bitches coming to Berta-palooza will get to putz around on something new.
Cool, the amp looked real interesting from the promos on Mesa Boogies site. Still I wonder if you have to turn it up pretty loud for it to shine. I think that amp like other large wattage Boogies are not made to work well at low volumes.
Having the 90/45/10 watt option per channel helps a little on the volume issue.
Yeah that 10/50/100 on the Lonestar was very interesting, although I found that I liked the 50 watt for cleans and the hundred watt for leads even at lower volumes. I was so hot for the 10 watt, and after a day or two I was not that interested in it. I think that Lonestar was defective.
Honestly, I could see myself running it in 90 watt mode all the time. I have my Roadster in 100 watt on all channels; just sounds fuller, even at lower volumes.
Congrats! Hope you have some time to fire that thing up for a well recorded clip or two! (=
I know, but I'm not using the Loomis enough to warrant keeping it. The amp on the other hand... ;)
Dearthian: — May 11, 2009 Mark V is coming home with me...
Nothing wrong with that. Mark G has gone home with Howie before! :D ::) :o
Wakka, wakka, wakka... :D
yeah, but he was just trying to see my wife in the hot tub. ;)
I new a guy who had a mark 1 years ago, it was the sweetest sounding amp.
Looking at the Mark V, without hearing it, I would expect a lot of guys trading in to get one, could this be an instant classic?
I know the interest in the head-version is very high at our shop; the 1st one that comes in is already sold. There was a guy interested in the combo version, but he snoozed too long. ;)
Another thing that impresses me about this amp is how well it cleans up via volume knob. I had it on the heaviest setting and it cleaned up quite nicely.
that is very impressive. Lots of things have to go right for a high gain amp to clean up well with the guitar volume knob!
Cool bro! What was the price tag on it? (If you don't mind) My son wants one, too!
cgtrox 8-)
Mark V's aren't cheap, even WITH employee discount (Mesa doesn't mark them up too much). 112 combo is $2099, head is $1999. My cost on the 112, which is 5% over dealer cost, is still $1653 before trade-ins.
Those list prices are definitely reasonable, there will be some on e-Bay before long from people who like the looks of it but really wanted another type of tone, and they will probably go for $1,800 or less. A little patience is always good financially.
Actually, with this hyped of an amp, the prices on eBay (in the short term) will inflate. My buddy who bought the Roadster I now own noticed that, shortly after he bought it, that used prices on eBay (and what people were actually getting) were absurdly high. I'm talking MORE than new. Of course, the Roadster had just came out. There was one idiot who bid enough on one that he could have spent a couple hundred more and picked up a NEW Roadking.
Instant gratification society...HAHAHA!!
Well after a few days having it, how do you like it?
Actually haven't had a lot of chance to play. I'm in the midst of a bunch of gigs with the symphony and that is keeping me mucho busy (go to work at my day job at 9:00, work till 5, drive to Charleston, rehearse from 7-9:30, then drive home hitting the sheets around 11:30; been doing that since Tuesday).
I will have some time tomorrow to have some fun with it. ;) May even cut some clips if I'm feeling frisky.
I've FINALLY gotten to play around with the Mark a little bit more and I'm liking it even more. The most helpful thing was to actually READ the manual. Mesa, unlike a lot of companies, actually write a manual that gives you insights to the amp and how to get the most out of it and get the best sound (the guy who writes it is the guy who play tests the amps before they go out). I changed a few settings and was able to dial it in quicker. For instance, dialing down the bass on channel 1 to keep it from breaking up too soon (it worked), running channel 1 in 90 watt mode so it doesn't clip too soon. I also flipped Channel 3 into pentode mode for a tighter bottom. There were a couple of other eq changes I made that worked even better.
I'm really digging on the IIC+ setting quite a bit for heavier stuff. Very Petrucci-esque (older Petrucci/pre-Roadking era).
I've gotta go out this afternoon for a couple of hours, but I'll try to throw up a raw clip if I get a chance.
