Gear

Managed to snag one of these new at GC for $819, which is an insane deal.  It had been buried in their clearance section for months after Guitar Center stopped dealing Mesa gear.

Have barely scratched the surface of this thing, but so far the Tweed and Top Boost modes are just killer. This thing screams for a strat so i have to get my frankenmutt finished, but I am happy to report my PRS SE Tremonti Custom (woops, forgot to mention that as my Christmas gift, lol) just sings thru it as well.

I will get clips up when I get a chance.

new gear is fun.
congrats Paul, and yes new gear is awesome for sure.
Congrats Paul.  I wish I had one!  Oh wait...
Here's a dorky quick (and sloppy) clip of the top boost mode.  Verb is from the amp.  Funny thing is that I'me using the same Torpedo Cab setting as I do for my recto stuff (Mesa 4x12 with v30s and Engl 4x12 with v30s).

Yeah yeah, lame playing on the songs but what the heck..  I'm not gonna sit here and practice these riffs :P

I need to learn me some cool Edge stuff lol...

Did you play that on your first real six string?  You're such a rebel.

I like the crunch that I hear.  It sounded a little bright on the laptop speakers, but I like it in the cans.

I dig it.

That's the spirit Dean...  But your face is a mess!
I'd say it captures the vibe pretty well!
Holy crap., Bryan Adams, Tom Petty, Bowie, and Rush.  Sounds great.  When I first saw that I thought it said $189 and I almost crapped myself.
Thanks guys.

This top boost mode is so addictive for soloing...

The price he paid for it is "crap yourself" worthy.  CRAZY price.  Heck, if I saw a 1x12 combo for that price I would have snagged it immediately!
Good luck with it amigo, congrads
Holy crap, new gear all over the cave.

Congrats Paul!!

I don't know what Mesa stuff goes for--I stop looking once the price hits $500...

And this is on a "no discounts" brand.
Here's a kinda OK Demo from that same site, if you didn't see it. :o

kinda ok? lol AT is the bomb diggity he shows off the amp well.
fa·cetious·ness ;D
Ok, here's a quick unwarmed up (me that is) clip of the Hi 2 channel on the TA30.  Is it boogie?  Sweetwater seems to think so :D

Sounds good Paul.  Mind sharing your settings?  That's still grindy-er than I am dialing in even in 25 watt mode.  I'm getting killer smooth singing gain, especially in 15 watt mode.  The alnico speaker is working for that stuff better than I ever imagined.  I figured I'd be using it mainly for Vox and Tweed voices, but it's doing the best "mark-ish" tones of any of my speakers I've tried so far.

The amp is still killing me!
p.s.  That sounds more like what I was getting from the V30s.
Yup, V30s...  Also using the sparkbooster to clean up the low end a bit (unity gain, unity level - basically just the mid hump like a TS pedal but without any sort of gain or level boost - that's what I love about the sparkbooster, it can do this while a TS cannot).  Gain boost pulled out (on), gain at just shy of 3 o'clock, bass just past 9 o'clock, treble at 12:15 or so... 40 watt mode, volume at 9 o'clock...
Yep, figured you had rolled the bass down.  Are you finding that tight enough for you?  I was kind of surprised at first as well, and how big the bottom was but I learned from the Mini not to just use your normal "start with everything at noon" settings on a Mesa amp.

And, here is where I find the magic.  After you get your rhythm part done, just turn down one wattage mode, or maybe two, and your got a killer solo tone.  A bit looser, smoother, ah yeah!

it maybe doesn't feel quite as tight as the mini, but it's not bad at all.
That's pretty perky Mesadude!  I Like.  Kinda Roomy, Like a D cup. ;D

Nice demo's I watched the whole video, that guy can play.

Nice playing, never met a Celestian speaker that I liked, but you did some nice stuff with that clip. That amp is a keeper.....
Well I have to admit to senior moment.  The clip I posted turned out to be the Hi1 mode, which is supposed to be a British (Marshall) mode.  I blame the tiny switches and the location on top of the combo amp (which is actually sitting on top of my 2x12 Avatar) so I cannot actually see them from my chair.  But mostly it is a lack of familiarity with the difference between the 2 modes.  So here is a real (lol) Hi2 clip.  Definitely a bit harder to dial in the lows.  Using the sparkboost the same way.

sounded good here.  Will listen through a better playback system tonight.  I'm still loving the Hi2 mode.

Most nights, I play in the 15 watt and 25 watt modes a bit then turn it to the 5 watt mode to give Amy a break.   ;D

I'm going to move the TA over to where I can stack the Red Fang cab with a Wizard cab.  I heard the alnico speakers mix well with a G12H type, which is the Wizard.  Plus, that's the only speaker type I haven't tried it with yet, so I'll give it a solo run with the Wizard then try the combo.
That sounds really good, Seniorzilla.  It sounds like you're just futzing around and that thing sounds good throughout.  I dig that singing lead tone.  Of course, I'm of the opinion that you could make a mic'ed up cowturd sound good, but everything that I've heard from that amp is good.  I think it's a namechanger.  LOL ;D
