I'm always struggling with micing to get the right balance of close and distant sound to make it sound good (to my ears anyway). I've just rediscovered the thing that works for me. I knew this worked before but then for some reason put it in the drawer and forgot about it. I'm talking about the zoom Q3HD recorder (which is also an HD video camera). I Just place this in the room where the amp sounds good to me and it captures it faithfully without any tricks or constant tweaking etc. Absolutely brilliant. Really not sure why I put it away in the drawer for so long, but it's not going back in the drawer any more. Clips to follow later.
