Probably not news to some anymore, but Mesa have finally made a mini recto - I love the modern chunk clip...

Anybody have a spare 1K they want to give me?
:D
Here ya go! (You'll have to cut and paste it though.) ;)

Hey Paul,
Yep, this one has been on the radar for a couple months now. I like it!
I saw that Paul. I think they realized it is a great idea for those who want that tone but not the ear bleeding volume. And a lower price to boot over a Dual or Single Rec. Too bad it doesn't have the Cut/Master knob like the Transatlantic. That would make it the bee's knees!
Side by side comparison with the big brother:

Lacks the depth and the openness of the original. Still tempting tho.
hmmm, I heard differences but not necessarily ones that couldn't be EQ'd out.... I'll have to listen at home with headphones.
not to hijack, but Chris, how is the Trans Atlantic? I haven't tried one.
The Transatlantic is a neat little bugger. Channel one is like Mesa's take on a Vox AC. Kick it into Top Bost mode, pull the Cut/Master knob, turn this one down and crank the other volume and you can drive the power tubes into saturation without the volume. Channel Two is more Fender Tweed on setting one. The other two settings are supposed to be High Gain British settings, but I've yet to figure out what lineage.
Top Boost setting is righteous, especially with a booster. It will easily push a 412 in either 5 or 15 watt modes. The TA15 doesn't have a loop, but the TA30 does (for those loop inclined and wanting a little more power).
Overall, I really think it is the most toneful of all the Boogies. Even more so than the Lonestar. It is really small (think like the Vox Nighttrain) and comes with a bag to carry. Pop it on a 112, and you have a nice compact rig. Pop it on a 412, and you could have a great small venue rig (this little bastard can actually get pretty loud for it's size).
I must be getting old... the Mesa Recto-style distortion just makes me yawn. On the other hand, I play with a guy who has a 22 caliber--that thing is glorious. So yah, must be getting old. Next thing you know I'll be laying down I-IV-V and playing pentatonics.
no offense to the guy in the review, but here it is in the hands of a guy who knows how to record a good tone - http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/equipment/732430-yt-mini-recto.html#post10080107
Beware, cookie vocals within!!!
Actually, his site is worthy of linkage, the dude is a tone monster....

Hey Paul, got to try a Mini Recto. Tell ya what, it seems a little easier to dial in that it's big brother. Can go soft, but can crank for it's size. Worthy little booger!!
ooh... details please! I probably won't be able to get one for a while, lots of expenses with a sick dog now. But we'll see how that goes, we do have insurance for him so hopefully it will kick in enough to not have us in the red each month.
Meanwhile, details please ;) Did you get to try out all the channels/combinations?
HAHA!! I'll tell you what I can. I tried it plugged into a Boogie 112 cab. I tried just the lead channel the other day in both modes in 10 watt mode. Having owned a Roadster and a modded Single Rec, I actually thought the Modern Setting on the lead channel was easier to dial in than the Roadster. The Vintage setting seemed to be a little lower gain than that on my Roadster. It also seemed easier to dial in a tight sound without needing a Tube Screamer to tighten it up (of course the 112 might have helped that a little... ;) ).
I may get to try it again Monday, so I'll give the clean channel a spin. Any requests of things you want to know or listen for when I do??
I'm curious about how it sounds at lower volumes.... Part of the appeal to me (in theory) is being able to just plug in and play without needing a hotplate or the like. I love my krankenstein but the dang thing is so loud and wired in a way that the best tones are when the the Master is dimed (haha Dimebag's revenge).
Boogies are kind of the same way, but (IMHO) not quite as bad. With my Roadster, you could tell that once the Master got up to around 9 o'clock with channel volumes at a reasonable. Or, if I dimed the channel volumes, then started cracking the Master from zero. That could get loud real quick.
Now my modded Single-Rec sounded really good at lower volumes.
I'll try turning it up a little if the opportunity presents itself. That's the tricky part. ;)
10 watts is friggin loud, though, through efficient speakers. None of the amps we use in our jams go above 15 watts, and none of them need to go above 9 o'clock to compete with drums...
Tell me about it Charger. The Mesa TransAtlantic on lowest wattage setting can drive a 412 quite nicely.
one semi nifty trick I've used is my G Major in the fx loop as a volume attenuator... only works in a serial loop though.
Played one of these mini's yesterday, was actually impressed with the lil' rascal, lol! Unfortunately for the mini though, it was sitting right beside a Mark IV...which I really liked (never played a Mark before, awesome lead tones :o).
how did the lead tones compare? I might chase one of these down....
I couldn't crank the IV obviously but even at lower levels it had more crunch and growl (?), more of an 'angry' vibe to it, the mini was more compressed and slippery (in a good way). But that's to be expected, they're two different animals with different characters. Both were NICE in their own ways! If I were made of money I'd love to own a Mark IV (and a Shiva, Les Paul, Suhr, etc). But I've got something else inbound instead. ;)
The surprising thing about the mini was how smooooth the lead tone sounded at such low volumes, absolutely fizz free high gain tone, where all these other low watters still exhibit some grit (not the good type) at lower levels. The mini Recto was the most toneful (dock me a days pay for using that word ;D) low watter I've personally sampled thus far (strictly talkin' high gain).
Wow! everybody is going small. I get emails everyday about getting bigger. Hmmm.
I was partial to the Vintage Punk. I resemble that remark. :D
LOL, what did you get now D?
And good to see you Deano :)

See my previous post. In the 10 watt mode it was gravy and not overly loud IMO. Very HOME studio friednly. You'd have no problems zipping around the neck with this thing. A shredders amp.
As for the inbound...
for several weeks now I've been on the lookout for something warmer and gainy (the Z is warm and thick, but very light drive) to pair up with the brighter Ceriatone. Been scoping Bogners, Carvin Legacy IIs, Orange and Mesa's. Found what I was looking for in the Budda SuperDrive 30 Series II. Should be here monday!!! And get this, no swapping or trading, etc, of current gear, just a straight up addition to the fam (bringing me to a whopping three heads now)! ;D

Woot! Grats on the new addition :)
