From Gibson SN lookup:
Your guitar was made at the
Kalamazoo Plant, USA
October 14th, 1980
Production Number: 54
She's a V2 I bought new in November of '80. Natural finished maple / walnut body and 5 piece maple / walnut neck. Ebony board. I was there when the UPS man brought it in and I just had to have it. It was my only axe for a while. I wore a lot of the gold off (Nice player) but ended up not caring for it too much. At that time clean to me meant just the amp's maximum distortion sans disto and od pedals and this thing sounded too much like a pussy Strat. I kept it because they were kind of a flop and nobody wanted them, so it was basically worthless. They only made them from 1979 to 1982. Not extremely rare, but more desireable now.
It has the boomerang pickups. Basically two short single coils per pup butted end-to-end in a v shape each one covering three strings. Designed to compete with the strat sound but still be humbucking. Mine measure 13.31K (bridge) and 12.95 (neck) so they're hotter than a vintage single coil but paired with the maple really shine for clean tones. Unique sound for sure.
The neighbor kid talked me into breaking it out. Sounds amazing through the Rebel, especially the neck pickup. It's a beauty and I am glad I didn't sell it.
