no, not a scene from a porn film, just interested to know what height you guys set the action on your electric necks. My les paul i super low, too low in fact as some of the higher notes have a horrible snaggy sound to them (not fret buzz, just don't sound good). My tele is a medium height and plays and sounds much better. I'm doing a full setup on my les paul this weekend to make it higher, similar to the tele.
Hey Jon, Funny, I just raised the action on both of my electrics a short while back. Both were low. I have been playing a lot of acoustic stuff over the past year. When I put new strings on last cycle, I needed to raise them a bit. Not much. Just felt more comfortable, and like you relieved a little noise. No specifics. My Epi is running a little lower than my Gibson at just under 3/16" at the 12th fret. (4mm on the Epi, 4.5mm on the Gibson) found a nearby metric ruler that I keep handy for my foreign friends. ;D
I generally gravitate to 2/32" - 3/32" "thin" E to "thick" E, respectively, at the 12th fret. That's a "by eye with ruler" measurement... so, not exactly accurate but close.
Some guitars require a bit more height but it's rare that I can get a good sound out of one any lower than that because I pick kinda hard.
