Picked up a mint JSX for $500.  Re-tubed it with JJ EL34's, and this thing is boss.  I forgot how good the clean channel is on these things.

And had to add the lights...

Wait... the clean channel? Every Peavey clean channel I've played since the Classic series has sounded like an afterthought at best and dogshit at worst. I thought people loved these for the crushing metal djent djent?  Got clips?

Is this a replacement for your H&K?
If you read about the design, they actually designed the clean channel on the JSX after the Classic 50.  It's the best clean channel of any amp I've owned.  As the EQ knobs on this amp are dynamic, and add to that the global presence and resonance knobs, you can really fine tune your tone.  Plus I'm adding the EQ of my RP500 pedal to the chain.

By itself, the Lead channel is ok (I do use it primarily as a solo channel).  But by itself, It doesn't 'sing' like the Vyper I had that I previously raved about how good the JSX model on it was for soloing. But with an Eq'd patch on my RP500 (which I'm running through the effects loop), which also includes a nice delay, I'm getting a solo tone that is a tad better than what the Vyper was producing. Which in my opinion, is absolutely killer.

The crunch channel on this thing is tits.  On low gain (around 1.5), I can put my guitar's pickup selector in position 2, switch to single coil mode, and it quacks like a duck.  Really nice tone for early classic stuff. Turn the gain up to 3.5, hit my guitar in full humbucker mode, and I'm 80's rythm territory.  Punch the gain to 5, lower the mids just a hair, and I'm in Dream Theater mode.

My Hughes & Kettner Switchblade pretty much crapped out.  I sold it to a local dealer for parts, as all it produced in the end was just a hum.  I really liked that amp, esp. because I could save up to 128 patches.  And it had on-board effects.  Really cool tone, too. I just couldn't justify purchasing its successor, the Grandmeister 36, for $1200 or so when I found this JSX for $500.  I'm glad I went with the JSX.  When EQ'd properly, it is a tone machine. I just have to teak the gains (crunch and lead) on the fly when playing live now.  Not a big deal....and certainly worth the tone I'm getting.

We have a show coming up on August 6.  I'll get a sample put together from the recording we will get from our Line6 mixer board, and I'll post it up here.  I currently don't have a way to record it straight to my computer. I think you will like what you hear.
Ok, so I can't record direct to my computer.  So tonight I set up my cell phone in front of the JSX, and noodled around a bit.  The sound quality sucks, as it is from a 3 year old cell phone. I did this with the new Charvel I just obtained. Did I mention a 3 year old cell phone?  LOL.....

So I just listened to a youtube... of a three year old phone mic... of an amp at low volume with acoustic sounds of the guitar competing with it... through iMac speakers... and thought it sounded great!
LOL!!   I'll post up another one with the amp turned up a bit ;)   And I realized after I posted it, it was totally dry (no delay or reverb).  I have a killer 'solo' patch on the RP500 that I use for soloing that has a nice mild delay to it.
This one is for you Sheep ;)
