I watched the vids yesterday... It's pretty much exactly what I want... 4 good tones, two channels. I'm gonna check one out as soon as I can. Wish there was a 30 or even 20-watt model...
Gonna be a little too expensive to tempt me away from my Tweaker, but looks like it has potential to be very sweet.
Specs indicate 25/50 watt pentode / triode AND low power mode:
Advanced HD modeling technology
Reinhold Bogners most flexible tube design
(2) 12AX7 preamp, (2) EL34 power amp (25W/50W)
Simple and straightforward 2-channel design
Each channel: Drive, Bass, Mid, Treble, Presence, Reverb, Channel Volume
Master volume
High and Low inputs
Reconfigurable analog components (Class A/Class AB; Pentode/Triode)
Complete, one-touch analog reconfiguration (via Channel select switch)
Low-power mode
1x12" Celestion® custom G12H90 speaker
L6 LINK in/thru connection for POD® HD integration
Serial effect loop with level control
Footswitch jack for channel switching
XLR direct out with cabinet simulation and ground lift switch
4, 8 and 16-ohm speaker outs

As opposed to the 25-watts it can run at?
I know, but from a weight and portability perspective, I'd like something that's not a 50-watt behemoth. If the 1x12 DT50 is like the Spider Valve, it's not really portable...
It's going to have to be cheaper than the list to attract... err... anybody. $1299 for the combo? No thanks, I'll get two egnaters and a Pod HD.

Good point. They're a bit behind the curve. The trend seems to be toward smaller low wattage amps. Full size heads look ridiculous to me now.
I hauled my Spider Valve around and I don't miss that part of it.
The POD HD clips sounded good enough to stir a little GAS. I looked at all the propaganda and didn't find any mention of cabinet modelling methodology or even what speakers are modeled. Looks like another triumph of planned obsolesence though!!!
And the main "tone" comes from a DSP - not sure if I'd want to deal with that again...

Yeah, not as a sole resource and I would have to stay away from the forum dick measuring and pissing contests that will inevitably ensue.
I'm perfectly happy with my tone - a good position to evaluate from.
POD HD for grab-n-go, recording flexibility and drowning out the TV at the inlaws over the holidays is worth an audition if i'm there anyway.
Eventually the technology will be equal to the glowing glass and they'll probably charge more for NOS tube software updates.
I don't have a problem with tone from a DSP... shit, the Spider Valve absolutely kills every time in our jam room. We use a SansAmp rack in front of the Sovtek, and that's basically a fancy distortion pedal, but have no problem getting serious tone from it. I like the tone of the SV in general... everything sound cuts through with it, it has a nice range of cleans and mid-distortions, and then face-peeling gain... Very cool. But it's loud as fuck, the SV is either super quiet or really loud. I have never been able to turn it above 3. And it's big--heavy, deep, wide, and tall for a 1x12. Also, it has too much low end. I mean, seriously, it is HUGE. Play any other amp in the room, and it's just swallowed by the SV.
So I'd like another amp in the jam room... I really like the Rebel20... Loved DTR's... the clean was fabulous. But I don't want another head/cab. So I guess the way to go is the rebel 30... combo. Probably a better way to go. I'd be interested in the DT50 if it was price-competitive with the Rebel. $1299 for that amp is ludicrous though. We just picked up a Peavey ValveKing dirt cheap... will see if that improves things at all. For under $200 used it's worth a shot. I have to wonder, besides the fact that Bogner's royalty must be sky-high, why it is that everyone else can make a tube amp for under $500 and Line6 can't get one made under $750...
No surprise, but that's not what I meant. I had a SansAmp PSA-1 along with more POD's than probably everyone here combined, two Vetta's, etc.
What I was referring to is how digital things have a nasty habit of either doing weird things unexpectedly or needing to be rebooted at inappropriate times (sure, you could have a tube problem with a "normal" amp, but most of the tubes you'd have an issue with are also in this amp!).
Charger,
The Tweaker combo might be worth a spin too. No channel switching though, but very versatile. Not as stiff (to me) as the Rebel and the upper mids are not as pointy. Derek considered the Tweaker dark, but I think the V1 tube is critical. I never got a 'just breaking' tone I liked from the Rebel either.
The three preamp voicings all yield great cleans and the 'hot' preamp distortion is tits with the right tubes. It's a gem. Better low / moderate volume tone than anything I've tried so far. Tweak and a good OD pedal = lost hours.
The SV was a great amp - I struggled with the pick chirp and the volume (idle to blast.)
Regarding Line 6 pricing - they have to pay people to 'scour the globe' for the best amps to model. And you are spot on - just the Bogner name denmands a premium.
Couldn't you get someone to mod the SV and just put in a pot with a better volume curve?
Did you see where it fully integrates with the PODHD??? You can control amp setting with PODHD. They are also touting this as as their new Flagship amp, so that is another reason it is expensive. The fact it will do ClassA is interesting.
Head/Cab is fine with me. I'm not a big combo dude.

Too bad... I'd probably sell you mine. I'm wanting to upgrade to a 30 head for two channels. Let me know if you are interested.
sent you a PM to discuss.
Ok, just spent an hour with the Tweaker combo at GC. Thankfully they have a special room closed off from the wankfest section that's got nicer amps in it... Egnater, PRS amps (!?), a bunch of overpriced LPs...
Anyway, the Tweaker combo is to die for. That is a great amp. Mix and match the 4 switches and you get plenty of everything. I did notice that the treble and mids needed to be turned up to around 3 o'clock. But... that's why there are knobs, right? I played it against the Rebel 20 and 30 head through an Egnater 1x12, and the Renegade head. Can't afford the Renegade so it wasn't really on the table anyway.
The Rebels are nice, no doubt about it. Every bit as good as I remember. But the Tweaker... it's not even the gain section that I like it for... yes it has more gain than the Rebel, but I really am not that into gain. But the cleans! Mix and match the deep and bright with the three tone stack settings... ye gods. To record, or to play a gig with pedals... what an amp. No wattage control but I don't think it's that big of a deal... Anyway, I know what I want, I think.
Purchased! Now the wait begins...
Congrats! Egnater has got something really special goin' on with their cleans, he (Bruce) just has it dialed in. Had a Tweaker and a Renegade head, the cleans on both were where they shined, stock tubes no less. Sure you'll love it!
The guy who bought my Avatar 1x12 with the Alnico Blue tried it with a Rebel 20 and I was very impressed. The cleans were better than even my custom Egnater had so Bruce and company are improving with age. :)
Looks like mine is still for sale if anyone wants it. Mint, all swag, box, etc. Low hours, low volume, NEVER RECORDED! ;D
