...or better yet "Happy B'Day to me!" ;D
I've been interested in these since I first saw them. Last week I finally stumbled onto one to actually sample. 2007 HP Special USA Custom. For those interested, these are sorta the evolution of the Wolfgang. I actually like to think of it as Wolfgang's better looking sister ;). When Ed and Peavey parted, peavey promised to put out a guitar of equal quality with a few changes (much like they did with the amp line I suppose). They said it would be built in the same custom shop by the same folks and with the same stock of premium materials. Cool.
I owned a goldtop Wolfie for a year but never fully bonded with it. These HP Customs are in every way a better fit for me, it's like they took all the little things that bugged me and fixed them. The Wolfgangs Floyd setup was dive only and could not be changed (without a chisel). These fully float (or can be setup for non). The pickup selector is back down by the knobs instead of up where a LP has it, and the switch is also now normal as opposed to reversed ala the Wolfgang (down = neck/up = bridge ::)). The body shape is also a little more traditional. The tone and volume knobs have coil taps to split the humbuckers. Most everything else is identical to the Wolf, most importantly the neck. The body is basswood with a AAA maple top. The pickups are the same only supposedly tweaked better for the coil splitting option. Anyway, none of that matters if the build quality was shit but it's not, it's amazing. This one is like new, it even had the clear plastic on the back covers still. I gave it the once over (was setup poorly), upgraded to a brass block on the Floyd for better toanz lol and it's ready for primetime!
