Stock Hot Rod Deluxe and Deville. Gawd if my HRD sounded like those 2, I would not want another one (it did sound like that many moons ago)(that is why I put in the JJ tubes and new speaker).
Peavey JSX , nice amp. I could work with that amp easy.
Bogner Shiva, nice amp, not my type of tone however.
Bogner Alchemist Head, same impression of the one I bought and sent back.
Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue, nice but no ceegar. Fender Super Champ XD, also nice but no ceegar.
Also played the Eganter Rebel 20. Nice little amp, but I was not interested in it.
What didn't you like about the Shiva? I haven't played one, but the only other Bogner I've ever heard (Chases 101B) was one of the two best amps I've ever played, the other being Lances Fandango. And I got to play with Lances amp for several weeks, vs a few minutes. But that Bogner was the best amp I've ever played. Different models, different tones, I'm sure. Just wonder what you didn't like.
Ok, so you played some cool stuff. Did ya get the Lonestar??? :-? ;D

Tone is subjective to personal taste, the Shiva was a nice amp but it sounded like a Fender Clean and a Marshall overdrive. I don't need to spend three grand to get those tones, I can get them with pedals into my HRD. Now that said, my HRD don't sound like any stock HRD I played a stock Deville and Deluxe yesterday and they both sucked like mine did when I bought it. The Shiva sounded no better than my HRD with pedals. Conversely the Lonestar is a higher fidelity amplifier. The Bogner is for someone who wants a hopped up Marshall tone. Like I have said many times on forums we frequent together, I once had a hundred Watt Marshall Plexi, way back in the day. I sold it (for a profit I hope) and I have never missed it. The Lonestar sounds better than any amp I have ever played at low volumes. I never turned it up much, but you know any amp sounds better once you let the horses run free. The Fandango also has Marshall-ee tones. Not something I want. I want an amp that is fatter and smoother sounding. Yet gives me all the advantages of an overdriven amp too.

Not yet, the one they had was the 1-12 version yet they use the same cab as the 2-12 version which is big and bulky so I will go back to GC and see if the one they had was the 2-12. If it is, I may pull the trigger on it. If not, then I will order the head, or the 2-12 direct from Mesa. If I gotta lug that big cab around it might as well have 2-12's.
Nice thing is the 212 cabs, by themselves, aren't that bad weight-wise even though they might be bulky. With head and cab split up (like my setup), each piece is quite manageable instead of one piece that weighs a shit-ton.
I also have two 17" wide 1-12 cabs with EVM 12L's in them. Both are in perfect condition, relatively light and the head will do just nicely. It is a little more hassle to hook up but not enough to notice. Plus it saves on tube wear because the vibrations from the speakers do not hit the tubes directly. I may just go with that and have it shipped for $1849 from the factory direct. Old as I am I have learned the patience to wait the 8-12 weeks.
quit fooling yourself. come to bertstock/whs/whatthefuckever and listen to my axe fx. if you still aren't convinced than i'll shut up, until than im convinced everyone needs one. i have never shown it so somebody without them wanting it.
for the coin you are wanting to drop its well within your range
I appreciate your love of the AxeFX. Lots of people like them. It is obviously a great product, However you do not seem to understand my taste in sound. I need two good sounds a great clean, tube rectified by the way, something that has never been duplicated in the solid state or digital domain, and a great overdrive sound, also tube rectified. Also a great reverb, now that can be modeled and done well.
I do not like modelers, I don't need effects, compressors, gates, Chorus, or Flanger, nothing other than a decent reverb.
Now again the AxeFX is well liked all around. I don't want a bunch of pedals around either. So the AxeFX impressive as that seems to be, is not in my realm of interest.
Now if I am going to spend a few grand on anything it is going to be a high quality tube amp. I don't want chips, transistors, updates, programming, none of that stuff, just tubes, simple as that. Guitar wire into amp, done setting up.
