The Watering Hole

Ok, I've done it ! I've sold everything (Vox + various pedals) and replaced my gear with this "thing" :)
This is my first recording test with it, not perfect (mmm...I've never recorded anything perfect.. ;D ) but very close to the sounds I like.

Clean lead part at the start and then added a TS-9 on the second half. Big news: the clip is a 12 bar blues... ;D ;D ;D

Ciao!

You're brave selling off everything, lol, I could never do that (hopefully you're kidding).

Sounds nice with some tasty playing. I liked the phrases, especially places where you played seamlessly through a change.

Hi Derek, thanks for listening !

No kidding I really sold my Vox and all my pedals (I kept the Fulltone FDII because it was a gift from my son).
I've listened to the take with another PC and another set of headphone and noticed that it sounds a lot darker if compared with the AKG and Bose headphone I use at home. I don't know if it's ok now and were too bright my "old" takes... or vice versa...

It's a hard work... ;)

Ciao!

doesn't sound too dark - or too bright. sounds well balanced to me.

you didn't get a Kemper, did you? ;)

I like the tone and all but it sounds digital to me, which is not a bad thing! I'm not trying to guess what it is really... it's just that it seems too... pristine (?) to be from a mic on a cab... so I'm thinking it's either digital or you've now got a mic/cab setup that you should never ever ever ever change. :)

despite not guessing... I'm going with either a Kemper, Axe or Pod HD... or something into IR cabs. ;)

it does sound nice though!
My guess is that it is a modeler.

Yet, best tone I've ever heard from you Marco.
Exculente'!!!

(or however you say "excellent" in Italian  ;D)

Laptop, tiny speakers, etc (this listen) but sounds really good!  I'm talking tone.  The playing always is!
Really nice Marco, but the meta data gives it away ;)
I like when the tone starts to get dirtier later in the clip. Some nice "dig in" in there.

Is it a KPA?

Oh duh, was listening through Firefox, downloading it does give at least the impression that this was done with a Pod HD. Don't tell Lance.
Not to dark. What is "this thing"? Maybe a pod like Charger says?
saw that too, but could be just a name he gave the B/T...
Hi, thanks for listening & for the comments!

Right,  it's a modeler ! ;)

"The thing" is the POD HD (Bean\desktop version) as reported in the metadata....  ;D ;D ...what a noob !

Ciao!

P.S. another clip: Fender '65 model clean for rhythm. Same amp with the screamer ON for the lead part.

Ok, that's a much better Tube Screamer than is in any of the Pods I have.  I still don't like the tone of tube screamers in general, lots of mids and highs.  What other stomp boxes have they modeled in that thing?  Is there a modeled reverb as well?  And how much does a Pod HD bean cost...
They've gotten a whole lot better with the slightly gritty to mid-gain spectrum.

Sounds really good. Not quite as good as the hand wired VOX you had but great tone.

What do you think of the pick attack?
Damn, I missed all the fun.  I will take a listen later when I get home, on the road at the moment.

There're a lot of stomp boxed in the Bean..
Tube Drive      - Chandler Tube Driver®.
     Screamer            - Ibanez® Tube Screamer®.
     Overdrive            - DOD® Overdrive/Preamp 250
     Classic Distortion      -      ProCo Rat.
Heavy Distortion      -      Boss® Metal Zone.
     Colordrive      - Colorsound® Overdriver.
Buzz Saw            - Maestro® Fuzz Tone.
     Facial Fuzz      - Fuzz Face®
Jumbo Fuzz      - Vox® Tone Bender.
Fuzz Pi            - Big Muff Pi®.
Jet Fuzz      - Roland® Jet Phaser.
     Line 6 Drive - Colorsound® Tone Bender.
     Line 6 Distortion
Sub Octave Fuzz      - PAiA Roctave Divider.
     Octave Fuzz            - Tycobrahe® Octavia.
Boost Comp      - MXR® Micro Amp (+ compressor).
     Bass Octaver      - EBS OctaBass.

..Plus compressors (mxr, boss, L6Vetta..) + Various Eq.(graphic/parametric)

Reverb and delay.
Delays are the same that are present in the Line6 DL4.
Reverbs are generically called "spring", "hall" etc.. Two of them are modeled using the Fender Deluxe reverb and the '63 spring reverb (1963 brown spring-reverb head)...anyway I don't know what they're talking about. :)

Here the link about the models: http://line6.com/podhd/desktop/models.html

The big plus is that you can move every fx pre or post the amp emulator.
Another useful thing is the mixer. Here you can insert two amp, pan them and set the mixer volume for each one.
I've found useful the mixer volume to increase the headroom for a clean patch. The '65 Blackface model starts to breakup with the drive knob at 4 out of 10. If you increase the master volume, it start to compress the sound, so thanks to the mixer volume you can keep both drive and master volume at low settings and increase the amp's output.
Compared with the HD500 I've had, this one sounds less "metallic". Maybe the new firmware...or the honey moon!

The Bean is not "the perfect tool" but it's far beyond my needs (..and my skill). Purchased new for 390 Euro from my usual pusher. :)

Thanks Tobe!

Eh, the HW Vox was really a good sounding amp !

The pick attack... there's a little "click" on the clean sounds when playing on high register. I've found that using the "big" Dunlup pick, the problem is less noticeable. Adding a bit of overdrive that "click" disappear.
